I've owned:
AR10 FAL clone G3 clone I currently own: AR10 The others are definitely sexier and far more storied, but they don't hold a candle to the AR platform for me. |
My favorite is my SR25 but I won’t sell my wood M1A because of feels. No interest in any of the others.

Got a Remington 742 that shoots well and has taken a half dozen deer. I also have a DPMS AR10 that is way heavier than the Remington. I'll take the 742.
The AR or SCAR are definitely the best, but for some reason, the G3 is my favorite.
For fucking around I love a para-FAL, but for anything serious (hunting, distance, adaptability) the AR-10 once shaken out is more capable.
I have an M1A and a Scar 17, and of those two the scar is superior.
I don't have an SR25, I'm sure that would be sweet as well. |

This was my last range trip. I've had two AR10s and they were ammo sensitive (my reloads - if it won't shoot them then away they go), a PTR91 - heavy clunk beast with shitty sights, and decided to stay with these. All great shooters. The Winchester Model 70 is for hunting, the others for social purposes.

The HK M110A1 I think is pretty much the champion of 308 rifles now. Whooped up on the SCAR and SR25, weighs a pound more than an M4, and they hate us.

Small frame AR is the objectively best from that list. I like shooting everything on the list for fun.
.308 is "Diet Fresca 30-06". |

M1A is my favorite 308 hands down. Second place would definitely be the G3 clones category.

Saying goodbye to .458 Socom, and probably .300 BO. & 6.5 Grendel (and I really liked Grendel...) Peeling back to NATO & combloc only. 5.56, 7.62, and 7.62x39 for the trash gun. Mainly because of deep ammo stock for it. I've had fun playing with all the others...but done now. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Ruger SFAR: s'far, so good. Quoted: Nee. The 91 is a pussy cat. View Quote I suspect many of the “g3 kicks too hard” posts are keyboard experience only repeating what they’ve read from others. I also would bet many who have actually experienced hard recoiling G3s dont own a set a feeler gauges and couldnt tell you what the bolt gap on the hard recoiling rifle was, or how old and beat to crap the recoil spring in their surplus stock was either. My experience is similar to yours. An in spec gun is no worse to shoot than any other semi auto .308. |

View Quote Well your correct that I have no idea what the bolt gap is, but why would i check bolt gap on an HK 91 purchased brand new by myself in 1983-4? Maybe the Hot surplus German ammo & HK retractable stock contributed to the recoil, but it kicks much more than any .308 I own except for a Spanish FR 8 bolt gun. |

Quoted: You’re not wrong. We had an Iranian clone in IZ on the wall with a single 20rd mag. Hate to say it, but a .308 platform chambered in .243 is balls out the best of all..
