For those who bought a bunch of lowers, and want roll pins to retain the buffer retaining pin:
Roll Pins (Spring Pins) 5/64 x 1 Steel Lot of 50 $9.95 shipped for 50x (vs. $2 each from Cavalry Manufacturing) |
| For the guy with the split magwell, just super glue it shut. If it wont hold the pin than just put a bolt thru the whole and slap a nut on the other side. You may need to shave a little plastic from the retaing pin hole depending on the bolt you use. And you need a wrench to take the upper off from now on. Mines been running fine for almost a decade now since i blew it up with shitty reloads. |
Threw the Spike's 22lr M4 upper that's been sitting in the back of my safe on one of the lowers I picked up on Sunday:
Very tight fit on the rear pin (required a mallet to get it in and out). I don't think this is a lower I'll be swapping uppers on a bunch. Comes it at 6 lbs even. Nice that the .22lr upper does not require a buffer weight or spring. I suppose the FGC will bump that up just a bit. If I get really ambitious, I might take a Dremel to it, and attempt to skeletonize the mag well for a very cheap bastard child of an Era3 rifle.

Not sooner. $20 per lower with pins, limit 2. $5 blem lowers, missing pins, or buttplate (probably stripped buttplate nut), or cracked magwell, or cracked buffer tube, or all the above. Orders $80 and above ship free. Not valid outside CONUS. Actual shipping for all other orders. I will be in line Friday for my 10, and damn if he didn't get me on a lever shotgun as well. Waiting on a return call from GWACS on the price on buttplates. |
Ok guys I've got a bit of an issue.....with all 5 lowers I snagged up none of them will fit either of my uppers  albeit it is very very close (rear pin ever so slightly contacts the upper mounting hole thing)
I have the feeling it's just the molding excess crap on top and sanding all that off with fix it but still kinda bummed. If that's all it is I won't complain too much for the price and being able to give 3 more guys BRD

| I was thinking of getting one of the PSA 7.5" upper pistol kits maybe just for grins on black friday. I have a new Anderson lower that has never been on a rifle (or anything else) and was thinking of maybe making a pistol AR. But I can't really see the point other than maybe home defense. I think they look cool but wouldn't a regular p229 or 226 be even more effective for that? The price would certainly be a fair amount cheaper, looks like less than $400 for the whole build (thanks PSA!) and I think it would be kinda fun to build but I just wonder if I'm missing other possible uses? |

You're asking on AR15.com if a SIG in 9x19mm, even in .357" SIG, would be more effective @ home defense than an AR-15 pistol? In GD, no less.

@sinistralrifleman or @backbencher or anyone else who ends up with a broken $5 lower beyond repair: I would like to add a sling attachment near the receiver end of the buffer tube. It looks like echo93 used to offer a service where he milled a slot there as shown in this picture:  If I drill a hole in this area to run a loop of 550 cord through, will the stock be hollow or solid? Looking from the butt end there is a floor to the inner compartment, and the stock does not appear to be hollow where the rear sling slot is moulded. I am wondering if the plastic is solid between the "floor" of the inner compartment and the outside or hollow. |

The $5 lowers won't be beyond repair, or no one would buy them. 1) Cracked magwell - glue it, as someone above suggested, or just use a clevis pin and washers to hold the upper on and the magwell tight. 2) Missing buttplate/loose nut in the butt - Locktite the nut, and order a replacement buttplate from GWACS (still waiting on a price), fab a buttplate yourself, or cut it down into a pistol as I did. 3) Missing pins - order pins from GWACS or Cav Mfg for $10, or use clevis pins from Home Depot/Lowe's, much cheaper. 4) Cracked buffer tube - glue, or Sinistral may have advice on this one. A soldering iron might work. I might just use duct tape - I'm giving the $5 lowers away. If none of that works? Call GWACS, send them the one you paid all of $5 for, and they'll send you a brand new one for $35 + shipping to your LGS. They sell their lowers new for $129, albeit I think they offer ARFCOMers a 5% discount, or used to. |

I ordered one of these with plans to drill and bolt it with a metal backing plate inside:

It just occurred to me that if the area was solid I could simply drill a hole and run some paracord through which would be simpler and cheaper.
