Neither '9' nor .45, it's 'just right'.
It's 87 all the way. |
G22 owner since the summer of '91. Got a Walther P99 in .40 as well and I've reloaded it since '95.
I'm an early adopter/fanboy. Chris |

.40 is only good for shooting Limited Division in USPSA (Major Power Factor).
Maybe Single Stack as well... |
I'm gonna get in early, because I have a feeling this thread will break new ground in the debate.
I have one just to have one. And since it's the only one it is a G35.4 because damn that's hot.

9 is fine.
I love my G19, but I do kinda want to add a G23 to the stable. |
Compromises tend to be shit.
.45 is .45 for a REASON. It knocks dicks in the dirt. It stops bad guys DEAD. 9mm is a pussy caliber, for European pussies. .40 is the dyke of cartridges. |
Did I make it in before "Well, would YOU want to be shot with it?"
I bought one to have something to shoot during the last Panic and derned if the caliber hasn't grown on me.
I like .40 S&W. |
I like the .40S&W. My regular CCW, a PX4 subcompact, is a .40. Great gun, great caliber.

I bought a pair of G22 gen 3's from Mark at Summit.
They were so cheap they were almost free. |
from a purely gunsmith level the round sucks because it beats the hell out of its 9mm parent frame when compared to 9mm...
a 40cal built up from the bottom would be ok... |
More like the red head step child or the off-white kid in a Scandinavian family.

I have a 9mm, a .40S&W, a .357sig and a .45. I like them all for various reasons and I can't really think of a reason to dislike the .40. I know that 9mm ballistics has come along way since the .40 was introduced but to me that's not a reason to abandon it. The .308 can do just about everything a 30.06 can do but they're still cranking 'em out. |

Which one of you saying the 40 is weak are gonna be the first to take one to the chest? You'll be okay, right? Just a 40.
Full disclosure, I own a G22, M&P40 Pro, Mechtech 40 conversion and an STI Edge in 40. |

Which reminds me and don't mean to hijack the thread. Why did the .45 GAP fizzle?

I have two .40's;
A G23 and a G35. The 35 is for USPSA. I bought the 23 back in 1997. Both work great but I have carried 9mm for the past decade. The 23 is still a great gun. I have a shit ton of .40 so both are still useful to me. |

Pricey, hard to find ammo. Why would you want one when a .45ACP was superior in every way except grip size? Not enough big bore fans with girly hands. |

Here is a dirty little secret:
Unless you are shooting at someone in body armor (primarily LEO's) the mass of the bullet matters most. Sure, velocity matters, you don't want slingshot velocity. But a big ol .45 slug will put your target on his ass better than anything lighter. PERIOD. I prefer to knock the fucker DOWN. YMMV. |

You don't think the AWB gave a boost to those calibers? Everyone was trying to maximize the biggest bullet they could get into a 10 round capacity gun. If not for the AWB the 9mm would have rolled all over every other caliber like it's doing now post AWB. Nobody gives a shit about .40 or .45 anymore. They are the manual transmission of calibers. Nobody uses it besides enthusiasts. |
