Watching a little TV and an ad for this came on, I had an 80's flashback.

That is tempting. I had a box of about a dozen of those I had collected over the years, sold them when we had a yard sale a couple years ago for more than I had paid and then regretted it

I still have mine from the eighties. I've never even taken out the saw, fishing line, or whatever else is in the handle.

That is a 10 year old boy's master key to destructionville.  The old ones even had matches. A better toy was never made!

I pounded in quite a few tent stakes with the compass, pruned my mothers rosebush with the saw and used the matches to melt some army guys and model planes. After I destroyed my mom's bush I never saw that knife again.

I believe I'll order one and have it shipped to my friend's house.

Then I'm gonna print that ad out, give it to my kid, let him convince me to let him order one, take him to the post office to buy a money order, put it all in an envelope and mail it off to the same friend.

After two months I'll tell my friend to mail the knife on to us in a plain box with no packaging or paperwork.

I left sooo many of those broken and shattered throughout the woods I lived in when I was a kid.

I even had one of the camo-handled ones.

Did anyone ever notice they had a certain 'smell' to them?

My buddy's mom took the matches out of his, I always thought she was too over-protective.

I did try to use the piano-wire saw, and it ended in failure.

AAhhhhhhh....the joys of 80's kid-ness.

I worked with a guy that talked about "Knife Collection" nonstop.  I had to give the guy a ride home one day and he showed it to me.  It had to be about 15 of those damned things in it.

I have a Hackman Finnish from the 70's that was bought by Bill Moran because he couldn't keep up with the demand from Vietnam era soldiers.  He bought 100 of them, re-edged them, and built custom sheaths.  I imagine it's worth somewhere between $1,500-$3,500

My father got to learn quite a bit from him.  My dad made me this one the year before last.

I bought a cheapie one from Harbor Freight a few years ago.

Yes, I know it is a POS, no, I don't care.

Parents wouldn't let me have one back in the 80s, even though all my friends did.
Take that mom and dad! I have my very own Rambo knife. It just oozes quality.

I couldn't resist buying one at Harbor Freight a few years ago.

I put an edge on it with the angle grinder and have used it to cut kindling in the woods with the kids.  No way would I ever trust it but hey.......... it works.

That's it exactly how I remembered it. Why the hell did everything take 6-8 weeks to ship back then? I owned 2 of those POS knives back in the day. The first was the plastic handle model that I promptly broke the blade off of. I then ordered an aluminum handle model to "upgrade" and broke that one as well.

Had both in 1982.  Only broke one of the cheap Chinese knives...  I'm actually kind of glad to see they are still making those.  They are utter pieces of shit as knives go; but great nostaligia value.  It brings back all of my memories of trying to "survival camp" with one of those.  Many good lessons for a boy there.
