Can you post the original image your old avatar and new avatar is from? Yes. My last, uh, four avatars are from an ask-tumblr called "Ask Lil Miss Rarity", the premise of which is that after the events of S01E25 "Party of One" (where Pinkie Pie freaks out because she thinks her friends have secretly begun to hate her), that Pinkie Pie not only freaked out, but turned into a murderous psychopath, which then caused Rarity to go completely bugnuts fucking bananas-crazy and become a masochist (a hallucinating masochist: nopony else can see the 'camera' she's interacting with, or perceive the tumblr's commenters). The premise is a totally ridiculous extrapolation from the events of one episode of the show (weird horror/slasher stuff is not only 180* from the show, it's 180* in the conventional way, and then also ninety degrees in some fourth, unexplored spatial dimension), and I want to know where its plot is going to end up. The illustration in it is steadily making the ponies more anthropomorphic, though, which I'm not sure about. I'll put these behind spoiler tags because they're bloody (and might not be 100% kosher for work), but they don't violate COC (there exist panels in the tumblr that do): Those certainly are...interesting. Unfortunately they aren't really "Colorful and Innocent" as per the thread title which is why probably people here are getting squicked about it. Also, I think another problem is the mass of furries out there who weren't attached to any mainstream cultural phenomenon have totally glommed onto MLP and brought their collective fucked up psychoses with them...maybe to seek legitimacy? IDK. Zoophiles, plushies, BDSM, etc. Definitely no bueno. |

What BakerMike said is exactly right. People who like MLP:FiM get nearly as much respect as pedophile sociopaths from some of the idiots running amok on this board. It's like being lumped together with the furries, which also receive much unwarranted hate. Poking a little fun at somebody for enjoying a cartoon about animated ponies is one thing, but to accuse them of being pedophiles goes far, FAR beyond anything rational or tolerable in polite society. If any of you made that kind of accusation toward someone in real life, there would be teeth on the floor, police involvement, and hate crime charges brought against someone. I'm surprised it hasn't led to a bear pit thread or two yet. Really. Maybe it will, soon. And if you're unaware of how pit threads work, it's where people who have a gripe with somebody get to air their laundry and present information about the cause of the butthurt, and Ed Sr. judges. The loser gets a vacation away from arfcom for however long Ed considers appropriate. It has resulted in members being banned for a long time, maybe permanently. In this case, if this went to the pit, it'd be very clear who's accused whom of involvement in pedophilia and Ed Sr. would NOT be kind to the accuser. So those of you who think it's funny to associate fans of a cartoon with pedophilia really need to STFU and back off from such things right now before they find themselves called into the pit. And you don't even have to make a single post in "your" pit thread for Ed Sr. to check out the situation and determine whether or not you should take a vacation from the site. You've been warned. From this point forward, I absolutely PROMISE that I will personally call any individual into his own pit thread if any one of you fools chooses to make that sort of allegation, even in jest, against anyone who claims to be a fan of the show, as I will interpret that to mean me. While I feel others have the right to llike what every they want no matter how stupid I think it is, I am not sure I agree with your position or threat to go after other users on this forum. Something doesn't seem right about it. |

Quoted: OMFGI find this thread very amusing. MLP is good. I've watched most of the episodes. As with anything some fans can get a little bit obsessive. I don't think anyone expected MLP to develop such a large and obsessive fandom though. But the show is funny and well written and the characters are likable. I don't consider myself a brony. A friend of mine is though. He has dressed up and went to this convention last year. He has bought very expensive hand made plushes off of Ebay of his favorite characters. He regularly says "everypony" in conversations. I have no problem with any of that. I merely like the show. He loves the show. |

Quoted: Jesus another one? My Little Pony? It's about the same for me. I like the show. I don't try to look or act like it's part of my life, though. If bronydom has many levels, from mild to extreme, then I'm on the extremely mild side. Maybe a 1.0 on the 10 scale. (At 1.0, you make an effort to catch every episode. if you are OK with missing episodes, you score less than 1.0.) While I appreciate the fan art and creations that have arisen from it, I don't aspire to own or make any. |

Hell and fuck yes. The entire corpus of Robotech is on Netflix, I need to watch it all from start to finish, at some point. I'm kind of shocked how much some of the mecha in the scenes of the units arming up look like Warhammers and Wasps from Battletech. Didn't some company eventually sue the shit out of FASA for obviously just outright stealing designs? I don't know if they got sued, but a lot were obviously direct copies. Battletech: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lichtblau/mecha/Battletech/Marauder/marauder004.jpg Robotech: http://www.kent.net/robotech/mecha/zentraedi/glaug.gif Gotta love a children's cartoon that graphically wiped out 70% of planet earth and showed kids getting vaporized. The artist that did the Battletech Maruader, Warhammer, Rifleman, Archer, Crusader, Thunderbolt, and the jet-robot stuff also sold those same images to robotech. Robotech had a lot more money and corporate lawyers so they fired off nusense lawsuits until Battletech caved and stopped using those images. |

So far, though, most of the accusations of pedophilia are just from the show, not from the moderately bananas fan stuff.
Also, I think another problem is the mass of furries out there who weren't attached to any mainstream cultural phenomenon have totally glommed onto MLP and brought their collective fucked up psychoses with them...maybe to seek legitimacy? It's target audience is of course little girls. But... It's written so as to be entertaining for their parents as well. Then it's got anthropomorphic animals so the furrys like it. So it gets as fans: little girls, parents of little girls, animation fans, and anthropomorphic animation fans For me it's just another show I like watching. Several of which have already been posted in this thread. For instance Full Metal Alchemist and Robotech... I also very much like Ghost in the Shell. but that's all anime. American animation I like includes Avatar the last Air Bender, Legend of Korra, Thundercats (both old and new) and MLP ETA: with American animation there seems to be this stigma that it's for children and children only. It does not have to be. It's rare to find an American show written well enough to appeal to older people. Those few shows that are written well gain large amounts of fans who previously had to go outside the country (read: Japan) to get animation entertaining to them. |

Quoted: This picture shows the Brony type. Grown men, who in previous generations were learning a trade, or preparing to defend their country, now spend their time watching cartoons. Can I watch cartoons while I'm on break from defending my country? I'm not into the pony stuff, but I watched the fuck out of Spongebob in between mission in Iraq. |

how widespread and insidious is this sort of "art" in the little pony universe? Not more frequent than crazy furry shit, although the proportion of pornography to standard illustrations seems significantly lower. Sites like Equestria Daily don't post pornographic material, and Ponibooru puts anything labelled as "questionable" or "explicit" behind a login.
Is my daughter (who loves the show) apt to run into this sort of thing on a little pony message board-or is this sort of thing limited to 4chan and the like? I've never actually been to an MLP-specific forum and the only site I frequent regularly for fan-content and MLP news is Equestria daily, and the most risque pictures I've ever seen posted there were ponies in like stockings or whatever (quoth the post author 'covering something up implies something needs to be covered up).
Part of me thought those were pretty funny-but it's a helluva lot less funny when I think about my kid watching it One might easily say that about... say, for instance, /gd/.
ETA: There is TONS of fun pony-related stuff on Hasbro's official MLP website (as you might expect): some nifty little flash games and printouts and all that kinda stuff. Start there, and maybe you can curate things from EQD or DeviantArt to show to your kid. |

I've always been a live and let live kind of guy, but I'm pretty careful about what my daughter sees on the web. Does she still see things that I don't approve of? Of course she does, but I still curtail as much of that as possible. It's some consolation that as a network admin I have the tools and the ability to watch her online activity like a hawk, and control where she can go and who she interacts with. Then when the show was re-imagined into G4 back in 2010, next thing I know I was laughing harder than my daughter was. Crazy? Well, that custom plush toy that the girl is holding in the image on P1 probably cost around $250-300. Higher end ones have come close to $3K. Yep, that's up there in terms of some of the insane things going on. |

Seems better than the usual you see on GD anyhow. Oh yeah, and the show is pretty damn funny. I'm sure her husband being a 'Brony' has nothing to do with her depression. Actually it was watching her mom die slowly and painfully if you must know. Something about watching your only parent wasting away in front of you over a period of a year. Having to leave all of your friends and sell everything you own, travel to a state you hate, and leave everything behind to do it. It could also be her watching me practically work myself to death to pay our bills while she is at home taking care of her mother's will and preparing the house to go on the market. Somehow I think all of this, coupled with having to go through everything her mother owned (a hell of a lot) could be the cause. But of course, it must be a TV show. Especially one that she likes. She has seen exactly as many episodes of MLP as I have. 4. Dude, I'm pagan, a fur, a complete and total nerd. I have more Firefly and Futurama stuff than MLP. In fact, the only MLP stuff I have was given courtesy of a great team member here. Edit: Now that I think of it, these are the things that I have more of than MLP: Books: 700+ currently on everything from history to philosophy, religion, fiction, mechanics, and much more. TV Shows Movies Nerdy Stuff: Firefly, anime, futurama, Invader Zim, etc. Somehow, I don't think its accurate to call me a brony, but whatever floats your boat there buddy. |
