It's not about being good at one thing.  You must be good at many things.  If you can run 3 miles then you can run half a mile faster.  If you can run but can't obstacle, shoot, or chug, you will fail.  If someone can obstacle, shoot, and chug, but can't run, they will beat you because they can do more things well than you can.  If you can do all things well, then you win.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.-Robert A. Heinlein

Totally understand.  I can't chug and I am weak, therefore I fail.  I got beat at East6 by 400lb folks because they could shoot and chug.  I learned the obstacles are the extra credit on the test.

If there are 40 targets, that is were you are going to get a bunch of penalties if you miss.  That is one place where I can easily improve with practice and where I can make up a bunch of time.

ok, I think I'm in.  When is the next one closest to FL?

For the record, I do not drink sodas and I hate marshmallowy/sugary snacks.  How much pain am I in for?

What would be a good .5 time.  I tend to think in terms of longer runs.

For an old dude I shoot for 22-25min 5ks and 10min 1.5mile.

I guess I should start sprinting a sub 4.5min .5mile to be prepared better.  It is funny, why the hell is the 10min 1.5 is very doable but that 4.:30 .5 would really hurt.  I need more fast twitch work.

Had a blast. It was my first time doing an event quite like that, but I'm hooked. Lotta running, some obstacles, USPSA style pistol shooting, and rifle targets arrayed from 100-350 shot from weird positions. Definitely going to some more.

There are couple of Run and Gun events near me next spring.  I plan on doing them both.  The courses in my AO are up to 8k or so with 5 or more shooting stations and the same for obstacles.

Trying to build myself up to a half marathon. Also just generally building up cardio and strength too.

Weight machine, bench, free weights, medicine balls, kettlebells, rope, etc.... I was once in shape, became a fat ass when I became a cop. Now trying to get myself back to being how i was before i became a cop twelve years ago.

If I was able to compete with WWI weapons (M1917 Rifle & Revolver) last year and do well on the shooting, but sucked on everything else. I need to improve the everything else. I'm not worried about gear. It is the physical aspect that I have to better.

Besides, at some point I want to run the course in WWI Trench Armor.
