I had a discussion with someone about "assault rifles" once. He said they are designed to shoot people. My response was that if the level of force used is justified, how that force is applied is legally irrelevant. IOW, if I am justified in using deadly force to protect myself, whether I use an axe, rifle, sword, spear, rock, or a sharpened stick is irrelevant. And I would rather use a tool designed to do a job than make due with something lesser. Much like I could move my household with a small car, but a truck designed for the purpose would be a better choice...same for an "assault rifle" to protect myself.

He admitted he hadn't thought of it that way before.
