If I hold a 2.6" group at 200 yards I feel good about it. This at 1000 is amazing.

I believe the rifle was Western Auto branded Glenfield.

That dude is 83?!

Doesn't look more than 60 or so.

Extreme novice regarding long range shooting, how much of this is skill and how much is luck?

I realize this dude is a badass shooter, but with that kid of range, certain variables have to come into play you can’t control.

Ages like him too.

Very impressive!  Most people couldn't get that group at 100 yards.

Having a lot of skill makes you lucky.

Putting ten in that tight at 1000 yards is way beyond luck.

[ETA] Just having a gun and ammo that can do that is remarkable. This is really fucking phenomenal shooting.

According to the story:
Optics: Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60x52mm

Maybe the Vortex company should pay this guy to be a brand spokesman.

Skill, knowledge and extreme attention to detail. Every bit of that gun and ammo have an effect on group size. I'm sure he loads his own and tests the hell out of it.

That group is amazing!

That’s not luck, but if you look at horizontal versus vertical dispersion on that group then either wind conditions were very calm, or at least consistent and the shooter has incredible wind reading skills. Either way that’s excellent and the result of a lot of discipline and trigger time.  That will probably be a record for a long time.  That group is like magic squared.

Just read that article and I would like to sit down with that guy and have a conversation over a beer.

In the Q&A Greer said that he would like to compete in the Nationals but isn't ready this year but he might be ready next year.  If the guy that just set the all time 1K record isn't ready for the Nationals then who is?

I could do that at 200.  If I shot that group at 300, I'd be taking pictures of it and feeling darn good about myself.

He is incredibly skilled and this is the first time anyone  has ever done it?! Lots of skill and some good fortune mixed in.

That's seriously impressive. My best 3 shot group at 1000 is 3 times the size of his 10 shot group.

Yep.
I haven't got much practice in at 1000 yards yet.
But I felt pretty good the first time I held 10 shots to 9" at 900 yards.

I’ve shot exactly 1 benchrest match.

It wasn’t my cup of tea, but I thought the heavy gun division was awesome.

This guy confirms it.
