Agree. Obviously burning calories drops fat, but it’s far easier just to eat less bullshit. When I cut I do both, a huge diet and huge exercise. As in 10-30 miles on foot per day. Even then, the majority of my weight loss is from diet. The exercise is pretty far down in the scale of diminishing returns, and I only do it to eek out as much fat loss as possible in a given time frame.

And yes. Weight loss doesn’t matter as much as body composition. People on both ends focus too much on raw weight numbers and not enough on fat/LBM numbers.

Subjective opinion time: 1) No one cares if you’re lean but a scrawny bitch. 2) No one cares if you’re strong but a waddly muffin-topped fatass. That’s my personal bias. I want to carry as much muscle as I can and still be sub-teen bf%. Other people have different fitness priorities, and that’s fine too.

I have an awesome balance of ice cream everyday and ab workouts 5 times a week. It works!

I lost 40 lbs in a couple of months with keto and 16/8 intermittent fasting.  But I was still eating close to 2000 calories and almost never felt hungry.

It's always interesting when peoples biggest complaint about keto, is what they think peoples feelings are about keto being criticized, and not about the metabolic process itself reached through diet.

Like... you eat food, your body switches fuel tanks, and you lose fat... so what? It works, it's an understood scientific process.

I've noticed people that hate on keto really only respond with shit about calories and carbs, but never what essential vitamins and nutrients large amounts of carbs are needed for, while also failing to understand either willfully, or ignorantly that you can eat carbs on keto... and probably SHOULD for the fiber (which doesn't count as carbs anyways).

At least the "calories in calories out" people haven't shown up yet, I've yet to have them explain how 1500 calories of steak, eggs, bacon, milk and salad is the same as 1500 calories of carbs.

I feel like both sides of these arguments are a bit reductionist and frequently argue right past each other. For weight loss, calories are far and away the most important aspect of the discussion. This is *not*, however, to say that calories from differing macronutrients are interchangeable in terms of what they do for your body, whether in a caloric deficit or surplus.

Caloric restrictions utilizing only one single macro would cause weight loss but wouldn't be the healthiest option, exactly because of the nutritional makeup of each macro.

Calories in calories out isn't about that, though. CICO says to eat a balanced diet and worry about your total energy intake vs outtake. The significance of this is that you don't have to completely change your diet, just eat less of the diet you already eat.

The key to weight loss will ALWAYS be because of an energy balance. There is no getting around that fact. CICO works on energy balance, Keto works on energy balance, low fat/high carb works on energy balance; they all work for the exact same reason.

What you eat to affect that energy equation is up to you.

This is exactly correct.

From the standpoint of energy, eating nothing but one macro would cause weight loss if there is an energy deficit.

That is not to say that that is the healthiest option, because different macros do different things for the body. Eating extra protein, for example, in a deficit will help reduce the amount of LBM that you lose.
