Aside from my Cutlass Supreme aprox 1970, I had a black IROC-Z with the logo in red on the side doors. One of the best cars that I owned.


I miss it.

They are for sure neat. I found a near mint low miles one recently. Wish I could have bought it.

It was reddish/graphics with a tan/textured interior.

Had a 82 Cutlass and an 86 IROK (not sure, but think that was the first year of fuel injection).  Loved the car, but damn 80's reliable.  It fell apart with less than 100k on it.

Paint was toast at 60K or so, had it repainted.  Rusted out the headers about the same time.  But in 94 or so blew the oil pump, water pump, and computer within 2 weeks.  Those repairs cost more than the blue book value and it ran terrible when I got it back.  Sold it within a week.  I think it needed another header replacement by then, probably more paint work and I don't know what the fuck else.  But still have occasional dreams about it.

IROC was as cool as mullets. Everyone wanted one but many were rattle traps.

Drove my '67 mustang and a handful of chevy pickups.

I had an 82 Cutlass and then a 85 IROC. Mine was a POS but I loved it.

Funny you mentioned the IROC because I was thinking about those cars the other day. I wanted a yellow one and didn't even like a yellow car but thought a yellow IROC was the cats meow .

Those cars have really grown in value in recent years.

There's one on ebay in like new condition right now. Too bad it's a 305 car.

I liked z-28s so much, I had an 84 then an 86 and an 87 simultaneously. Sold the 87 and kept the 86. All before I was 18.

Cut my teeth on those cars. Transmission swaps, engine and rear axle rebuilds. Electrical troubleshooting. Paint prep. Aside from trim and some minor options, they were basically the same thing as an iroc.

I don't know all the cars you've ever owned to pick a favorite out of them.

But considering my first car I owned was a 1978ish oldsmobile cutlass, out of the two you mentioned I'll have to go with the IROC-Z also.

Guy at work is restoring one. If I won the lottery, I'd buy the finest example out there. I had an 85 Camaro (non iroc) that I loved.

This is what I wanted, bad!!! Ended up buying a 4x4 f150 because I really needed a truck but I still drool when I see the monte Carlos.

Irocs we’re cool, put a 350 in a few and they were a pita to work on. No room!!

I got a mustang GT eventually and had a good time, no mullet.

I always preferred the Formula over the IROC. They are even harder to find in nice shape now.

Drooled over the thirdgen Firehawks when I was in high school. There was one on bringatrailer a few years ago, so I snagged some pics.

I had a couple of IROCs and you’re right, they were 35,000 mile cars. They just fell apart.

There is a blk IROC on the street behind me... The guys driving it has the same haircut he had in the 80s. There is another blk w/ red stripe on street in front of me, driven by a young kid. I should see if I can get them to race

The 3rd Gen firehawks were where it was at for me when I turned 16 in the early 2000s. I had a 91 trans am so the right nose and spoiler but mine had the gfx the formulas didn’t. I eventually sold it and now have a 4th Gen firehawk but it’s not quite the same to me as the 1 of 25 (I think) cars.

A college friend had one for a minute in 1991. He had some kind of transmission linkage problem so we didn’t ride much. One other thing I remember was a weird speedometer that had two dials, if I remember correctly, one for mph and the other for kph.

The smart F body buyer resisted the temptation to purchase a t-top car. They were so much better (and dryer inside) with a solid roof.

Most people suffered with t-tops though.

My first car, 1979 olds Cutlass, a few cars later just out of highschool, a brand new 86 Z28, in that new blue metallic. That was a pussy getting machine.

I moved from that to a new 1990 formula firebird with a 5 speed, fun car!

A kid in high school had a white 87ish IROC. A few others had Z28s and regular Camaros. My best friend had a red 85ish Z28 and it was clapped out trash. Creaked, groaned, overheated, smelled funky.

Probably about the time you were driving that IROC, I was driving a BMW E30 M3. THAT was a car!!!

I had a red '88 IROC (no T-tops ) with the 5.7L V-8 I got cheap at auction (bought for $5k in '91).

It was cheap for a reason as it blew the head gasket the first week I had it. It handled great but was pretty slow from day 1 as it was probably down on compression.

The only pic I had was from the sales ad I posted in Autotrader magazine to sell it which is lost in the house somewhere.

Yep, I had a really nice 85 IROC as my second car, that I unfortunately totaled as a teen, then got an 86 IROC, and eventually am 87 Z28.  All at the point they at least 10 years old 100k+ miles.  Loved them, learned a ton doing bolt-ons, cam-swaps- tranny and rear end work, etc.  

Still would like one today to resto-mod out with an LS / 6spd manual swap, etc., but it'll probably never happen...

Anything I owned that was late 80's to mid 90's 5.0l, 5.8l, 460 efi Ford. They were simple and never broke (unless I was doing something stupid)

Not really. All the fun ones, GTs, IROC, Formula T/A, turbo Dodges were around 6 to 7 second cars.

The GN and Turbo T/As were solid mid 4 second 0 to 60.
