I had the poors Tempest version of this. Probably one of my top choices I let get away. Either that or my ‘73 Z-28.

I derserve to be flogged for not grabbing a ‘68 bench seat, column shift two door post sedan Tempest in fantastic shape except for a dead original 350 HO in it about ten years ago.
I could just have dropped a 455 in it.

They are epic.

All Chargers were called Chargers even if they were not R/Ts.  All Chevelles were called Chevelles even if they were not SS.
And probably drives their relative cost up some because of it.
But snagging a Tempest…
Damn I should have

I repeated their performance for the time,
And objectively understood why some people loved them-
But subjectively-
To this day their looks still make me gag.

I always preferred the Formula over the IROC. They are even harder to find in nice shape now.

Drooled over the thirdgen Firehawks when I was in high school. There was one on bringatrailer a few years ago, so I snagged some pics.

I miss it.

What was your favorite?

Mine was a powder blue with white vinyl top ‘77 Monte Carlo I bought from my grandfather with only 43,000 miles or so. Car a BEAST of a machine and I wish I’d never sold it to buy a POS ‘87 Honda Accord…

Looked like this

my favorite so far:   the newer style Impala-- 2014+

tons of power )305 hp
very comfortable
"sporty" looking for a 4 door
great mileage for that kind of power
huge trunk
room for full size folks in rear seats

it was a win for GM....thats why its cancelled.

I had a 87 WE4. One of my favorite cars. Hauled ass & floated like a cloud.

Always wanted a 88 GTA Turbo.

The fastest factory F-bodies.

Nice!

Didn’t you start a thread back when you were looking at the 1LE or just bought it?

I’d love to take mine to a road course if there was one close & I had the time.

Other Resident had a black one just like that. May have been an '86. She worked at a Chevy dealership, bought the car from a co-worker. Nice car, 5.0/5-speed. IIRC, the 5.7 was only available with auto trans.. Fun car to drive but not actually "fast". About the same as an '89 5.0 Mustang that I had. Could not get either one much over 100 MPH.

Big surprise with the IROC was 20+ MPG fuel mileage. Mustang got fairly close. I sold the Mustang and bought a '92 Corvette LT1 6-speed that also got 20+ MPG. Corvette was a rock-solid car but, again, not really "fast".

Not really. All the fun ones, GTs, IROC, Formula T/A, turbo Dodges were around 6 to 7 second cars.

The GN and Turbo T/As were solid mid 4 second 0 to 60.

Friend (female that was a bit of a gearhead) had a GN that she bought new. She had magazine articles with road tests showing that it was the fastest car of the mid-'80's.

You were looking at high 14s quarter mile times at about 95 mph.
Which sounds horrible now.  You can go get a new SS Camaro and run in the 12s.
But it’s what a factory, off the showroom 1969 Z 28 would do.
And it handled and braked better.  And as you note, better mileage.
And was better than just about anything in over a decade.
