Had a Firebird. Fun car. Quicker than the average grocery getter. NOT a muscle car. Technically, I think it's a Pony Car... eta: FUCK headlight motors... just sayin. There are brass gears made for them. Replace them and your done. Oh, that car is long gone over 10 years ago. Glad I bought it, glad I sold it. |

Well I bought it!
I love it already. Thx for all the reponses.....it is exactly what I was looking for. |

I've been wanting one for awhile to replace my old 89 V6 firebird.

I forgot to add that I will be paying cash about 6500.00 not 7k for the car. I don't want a modern car...I want one like this. It's more old school to me and I love that about the Formula. I drive less than 3000 miles a year. Seriously! Just always wanted one of these and wanna enjoy the t-tops when the weather gets warmer. View Quote If u want it, go get it!!!!! Nothing wrong with having a beer and messing with something u like in the garage on the weekend. Edit: Congrats!!! |

If its stock, I would probably fo.
Yeah, the interior, and the interior ergonomics are shit, but the LS1 and the T56 make up for most of that. As far as issues, they'll have your regular GM shit interior issues, and it will probably eat a fuel pump sometime in its life, but the LS1 is solid as fuck, with more power easily obtained. |

See user name. I owned a 98 Formula auto, was my first V8 and i loved it, added a wisper lid and cutout and it ran a 13.4@106. Very few stock cars will touch that even today. My favorite was my 02 WS6 6sp, god this car was fun, was a factory freak too, Car made 324 Rear wheel Hp stock and 344 rear wheel hp after lid and exhaust. Ran a 12.99@111 mpg. Let me know if you have questions, ive busted many a knuckle working on them.

It's almost amazing how much nitrous one of those can hold stock
My old roommate had 3 LS cars, a 01SS with a ls6, a 00 Z28 with an auto tragic, and a 99 formula. The SS didn't get the happy gas treatment but it did get a lot of other bolt on stuff and would run low 11s . The other two got sprayed to the tune of around a 200hp wet shot . Neither could hook like the SS, but also, neither had near the suspension work |

First things first!!!
Do not cheap out on springs...Get Strano's You cannot get good dampening on the F-body other than Koni's or SLP Bilstein HD...limited articulation, lowered cars makes it worse. Replace strut mounts as well. somewhere down the line some retard probably over-tightened the sway bar link kits...replace to rec'd specs Steering wheel is from John Deere tractor...get a 2.2 ohm resistor, fake out SRS light, remove clock-spring and go 13" three spoke 315mm and wider tire may need an adjustable panhard bar, bump stop removal, and BFH (big F$%%^% hammer) mod. Spec clutches suck!!! Do headers when you do the cam & heads...much easier!!! Get gears for 228 and bigger cam...4.10 or 3.90 for manual cars 02 cars came w/ LS6 blocks, Intakes, and clutches Check out Vengeance Racing, MTI Racing, and Texas Speed!!! Monsoon system sucks, pull new wires & bypass. Plenty of room to mount speakers in doors and B panels...hatch has plenty of room for 12" sub box. Do ground mod / fix for body control module. YMMV 02 Z28 M6 w/ 44K, 98 C5 MN6 H&C 404 RWHP 78K ( Texas Speed 5.3 stage 2.5 heads w/ 228R (588/588) Cam) Join LS1 Tech!!! Cowpunk |

That's something you don't forget. ETA, if the engine was stock, I bet it still had the AIR injection system in place next to the drivers side cylinder head. Alot of people delete that system, but if it's left stock, that would make it a bitch to change the two rear plugs unless you temporarily remove the hoses. |

Did a tune up on my friends C5 a couple months age. All in all, Not horrible until I got to the rear two plugs on the drivers side. I had to remove the inner wheel well and use a miles worth of extensions. Putting it back in was a pain in the ass. Silicone hose on the extension and pushed onto the plug, it was kind of a bugger. I agree. The C5 is nice to work on, except having to pull rack to get balancer off...bastage!!! |

Those two can be hard, but once you learn where to hold your wrench, you don't have to go through all that trouble. I can tell you never had to change them on an Fbody though. That's something you don't forget. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I'm a long time member on ls1tech.com but more of a 93-97 fbody lover with the bastard LT1's.
Listen to these guys that are pointing you to the suspension mods and frame braces. My LSX exposure was through my Monte Carlo SS with the LS4 I bought for my wife's daily driver. My username is STOCKTA on there and this is a few intakes I have ported. My LT1 intakes have out performed Loyd Elliot's and Advanced Inductions by epoxy and welding mods done on the runners. These couple links should show how much of a f-body fanatic I am :) http://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-modifications/1330957-ported-stock-intake-vs-ported-epoxy-d-stock-intake-results.html http://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-modifications/1273177-edelbrock-airgap-port-work-before-after-plus-random-lt1-intakes-we-ported.html |

Well shoot. Dealership about an hour away has an 02 Firehawk with t-tops and a 6spd on Craigslist.
Actually, pictures all show it as a Firehawk (judging by hood intake, door and bumper decals, and partial glimpse of center console badge.... I'm not sure what else to look for in the pics), but it's listed as a Formula. Fake FH, or did they not know what to list it as? No price of course. I'll call tomorrow and see if I can get that out of them for shits and giggles. |
