Technically, I think it's a Pony Car...

Oh, that car is long gone over 10 years ago.

Glad I bought it, glad I sold it.

I don't want a modern car...I want one like this. It's more old school to me and I love that
about the Formula.

I drive less than 3000 miles a year. Seriously!

Just always wanted one of these and wanna enjoy the t-tops when the weather gets warmer.

If its stock, I would probably fo.

Yeah, the interior, and the interior ergonomics are shit, but the LS1 and the T56 make up for most of that.

As far as issues, they'll have your regular GM shit interior issues, and it will probably eat a fuel pump sometime in its life, but the LS1 is solid as fuck, with more power easily obtained.

Headlight motors will go out.  T-tops may leak a bit, but the 4th gens are leaps and bounds better than the 3rd gens.  The interiors suck, they're loud and not particularly comfortable.  To be fair I paid $5850 for a 2001 Z28 with 99K miles on it.  Keep your eyes pealed for deals and you'll find one.  Also forget all the naysayers about the typical redneck persona.  Nothing can put a smile on my face like hearing a push rod V8 scream to 6K+ RPMs.

Very fun cars,  ive owned 3 LS1s and an ls3.  If you can find an 01 or 02, they will be faster as they got some upgrades borrowed from the LS6.  Very first mod should be a strut tower brace, this will help the sloppy ass body feel a bit more solid and may even help with the squeeks and rattles.

I owned a 98 Formula auto, was my first V8 and i loved it, added a wisper lid and cutout and it ran a 13.4@106.  Very few stock cars will touch that even today.

My favorite was my 02 WS6 6sp, god this car was fun,  was a factory freak too, Car made 324 Rear wheel Hp stock and 344 rear wheel hp after lid and exhaust.  Ran a 12.99@111 mpg.

Let me know if you have questions,  ive busted many a knuckle working on them.

My 01 Z28 made 330 rwhp, 340 ft-lbs with just an exhaust and intake...And that was with an automatic and the shitty 10 bolt rear with 2.73's.

OP, have fun changing the spark plugs when you get around to it...Also the rear end is a weak point on these cars, you'll have issues with that far before the engine or trans.

It's almost amazing how much nitrous one of those can hold stock

My old roommate had 3 LS cars, a 01SS with a ls6, a 00 Z28 with an auto tragic, and a 99 formula.  The SS didn't get the happy gas treatment but it did get a lot of other bolt on stuff and would run low 11s .  The other two got sprayed to the tune of around a 200hp wet shot . Neither could hook like the SS, but also, neither had near the suspension work

OP, you might as well just go sign up at LS1tech and get it over with. That's the best place you could visit online to learn about your new car, you're not gonna get anything here in GD but a hard time from people.

Got bigger plans this winter.  Rebuilding the trans, doing SFC's, need new knock sensors, perhaps a new cam too. Lots of things left to do but it's coming together great, not much makes me happier than starting that car up. I've got a dyno video around here somewhere.

Exactly. They were relatively cheap too, and damn do they look great. I've got Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sports on them, 295's in the rear and 275's in the front.  If it's warm out it'll hook pretty good, but still gets awfully tail happy

My C5 used to get tail happy sometimes even with 315's on the rear. I nearly lost it bad one time gunning the throttle while merging on an on ramp. That's just the way it is, you have to learn the limits of your car by trial and error lol. Modern traction control systems are a huge savior for these new RWD performance cars.

I'm really surprised by how much the TCS will let me spin the tires actually.  It's a lot of fun, and I've only been pulled over once

First things first!!!

Do not cheap out on springs...Get Strano's

You cannot get good dampening on the F-body other than Koni's or SLP Bilstein HD...limited articulation, lowered cars makes it worse.

Replace strut mounts as well.

somewhere down the line some retard probably over-tightened the sway bar link kits...replace to rec'd specs

Steering wheel is from John Deere tractor...get a 2.2 ohm resistor, fake out SRS light, remove clock-spring and go 13" three spoke

315mm and wider tire may need an adjustable panhard bar, bump stop removal, and BFH (big F$%%^% hammer) mod.

Spec clutches suck!!!

Do headers when you do the cam & heads...much easier!!!

Get gears for 228 and bigger cam...4.10 or 3.90 for manual cars

02 cars came w/ LS6 blocks, Intakes, and clutches

Check out Vengeance Racing, MTI Racing, and Texas Speed!!!

Monsoon system sucks, pull new wires & bypass.  Plenty of room to mount speakers in doors and B panels...hatch has plenty of room for 12" sub box.

I'm really surprised by how much the TCS will let me spin the tires actually.  It's a lot of fun, and I've only been pulled over once

I think the newer tech works alot better for whatever reason. (Just my perception, I could be wrong)

I owned a stock 2012 SS for a little while after I sold my vette, and I couldn't hardly break the tires loose on the car. It was a comfortable car with good power, but it was almost boring to drive to be honest.

ETA, hope you learned your lesson and bought a good radar detector.

That's exactly what "santa" is bringing me for Christmas! Did you get 2 or 3 point? I'm getting 2 points just due to my true duals, pretty sure I would have clearance issues with my exhaust system.

Nice job man. I see that you did the exact upgrades that I told you that you needed to buy. Your car looks great, I'd love to have it sitting in my garage.

Got bigger plans this winter.  Rebuilding the trans, doing SFC's, need new knock sensors, perhaps a new cam too. Lots of things left to do but it's coming together great, not much makes me happier than starting that car up. I've got a dyno video around here somewhere.

I just put the UMI full bolt-in SFC's in my 94 Z and you'd be shocked how much flex it took out of the damn thing.

I only got the 2 point because I haven't really got too far into upgrading the suspension... yet. If everything goes right it'll be the host of a 5.3 turbo build later this year. I need to put some pictures up of it. Red with metallic silver center/polished lip ZR1 rep's in 17x9.5 and 17x11.

My buddy has one.  We call it "project leftovers"  Or "the tupperware car"   or sometimes  "the plastic fantastic".

All in all they are not terrible cars if they are taken care of.  But there is a LOT of plastic on them.

See user name.

I mean...

What year/generation?

From my experience, the Corvette's engine bay is literally the most convenient engine I've ever worked on. You swing the hood up backwards and everything is right there at waist level. I had to deal with headers being in my way, but still could still easily change a full set of plugs with a standard socket wrench in under 15 minutes. Fbody owners have to deal with an engine bay that was designed for a V6.

Did a tune up on my friends C5 a couple months age.  All in all,  Not horrible until I got to the rear two plugs on the drivers side.

I had to remove the inner wheel well and use a miles worth of extensions.  Putting it back in was a pain in the ass.  Silicone hose on the extension and pushed onto the plug,  it was kind of a bugger.

Those two can be hard, but once you learn where to hold your wrench, you don't have to go through all that trouble. I can tell you never had to change them on an Fbody though. That's something you don't forget.

ETA, if the engine was stock, I bet it still had the AIR injection system in place next to the drivers side cylinder head. Alot of people delete that system, but if it's left stock, that would make it a bitch to change the two rear plugs unless you temporarily remove the hoses.

I agree. The C5 is nice to work on, except having to pull rack to get balancer off...bastage!!!

We have a turbo F-body drag car.

Granted it is not stock.  But I didn't think it was all that bad.

I'm a long time member on ls1tech.com but more of a 93-97 fbody lover with the bastard LT1's.
Listen to these guys that are pointing you to the suspension mods and frame braces. My LSX exposure was through my Monte Carlo SS with the LS4 I bought for my wife's daily driver.

My username is STOCKTA on there and this is a few intakes I have ported. My LT1 intakes have out performed Loyd Elliot's and Advanced Inductions by epoxy and welding mods done on the runners. These couple links should show how much of a f-body fanatic I am :)

Well shoot.  Dealership about an hour away has an 02 Firehawk with t-tops and a 6spd on Craigslist.

Actually, pictures all show it as a Firehawk (judging by hood intake, door and bumper decals, and partial glimpse of center console badge.... I'm not sure what else to look for in the pics), but it's listed as a Formula.  Fake FH, or did they not know what to list it as?  No price of course.  I'll call tomorrow and see if I can get that out of them for shits and giggles.
