My wife and I argue about this; she's in education. We actually have a pretty good school district, but our cities suck and several districts should be abolished. Schools, for the most part, simply can't teach the basics and while not all teachers suck, many gravitate to teaching as a platform to groom, propagandize, and quite a few love the drama and attention they can generate in the classroom. The only way you'll get good teachers on current teacher salaries is if schools were privatized and students (and parents) are the ones held accountable and booted from school when basic discipline doesn't work. School NEEDS to be a privilege and not some mandatory social-engineering prison.

Public schools were always supposed to produce "good citizens" and yet all we get are stupid, illiterate criminals and animals. This story is a prime example of how "equity" works in a progressive-socialist run school district.
