A total blast.  Reminds me of the time my brother and I were racing around in the woods have a grand old time, and then I noticed my brother was no longer around.  I shut my engine off, and listened for his engine, but all I heard was my brother softly wailing for help.  Yup, he flipped that sucker.

This is a '84 Honda Big Red.  (ATC200ES - 200cc)  Used it all day today doing chores - hauling firewood - getting the mail.  Gave $175 for it.  Shaft drive.  Reverse.  Electric Start.

My daughter has a '83 ATC185S - the thing is a rocket.  Somebody warmed over the engine, and knew what they were doing.

Up in Canada they used to sell conversions like this, I believe they were for the Big Red. I would love to have one of these st ups!!. Back in the day they sold a couple of ski kits for the front. My fall project is to come up with a ski for the front end.

Man, there's nothing like doing donuts on icy roads with a 110! The only thing we've changed is the gas lines from the tank, and that thing still starts with one pull of the cord, even in the middle of the winter.

We have a creek that's about 6 miles long with lots of curves. That creek ride is a blast on the ice!

As most people have missed this, there is NO ban on 3 wheelers, any company can import/manufacture and sell a 3 wheeler in the U.S.

The consent decree was agreed to by the big three ONLY because it also absolved them of any future liability suits and government punitive actions.

Basically it was the governments way of saying...sign this or we will drop the f*ckin hammer on you

Remember aboout 8 years ago in a moment of stupidity I bought a 200x,  Now I was in my mid 30's so kind of reliving my childhood I guess. My Mother found out and had a fit...yoiu need to think of your family...your children...you'll break your neck...etc.

Couple weeks later my 5 year old cut in front of me, yep...put my leg down to swing it out of the way and caught it on the tire. Broke my leg, nice hairline crack.  It just so happened my parents were visiting the following week so not wanting to listen to my mother give me a "I told you so" I hobbled around with no cast to cover up what I did.

Would still buy another one though!

Had an early 80s one for a few years about 20 or so years ago,  it was lots of fun..    I  am pretty sure it was a yamaha 230, but I cannot find any reference of one..

My wife and I own two nice atvs. I haven't been on a 3 wheeler in years, but I think I might start looking for a nice mid 80s Honda (250, 350 or Big Red)
3 wheeler to have an extra machine to run around the woods in.

I had the same three wheeler, 1984 225 DX, black with gold trim and wheels (deluxe edition). It was awesome.

They are almost as fun as they are dangerous.

I have an early 80's ACT110 that still starts on the first or second pull. Changed the oil in it for the first time ever two years back and now it smokes. No pictures, just this video.

Also had the standard yellow DX 225, and the black one, but sold em both... Yamaha isn't allowed here.

I can tell just by looking:
1986 ATC 200x
1986 ATC 350X
1985 ATC 250R

The only honda trike missing in that fantastic collection is a 1987 200x (holy grail for trike collectors)

Kawasaki Tecate and Yamaha Tri-Z are also awesome trikes

I went to an arena race back around 86 and saw half the racers flip over backwards at the start of each race.

Personally I'd love to see a barebones 2wd quad with a liter-sized sportbike engine flying off the dunes.

tried atc's
200x
350x
250r
then tried quads
LT500

then went back to bikes and had more fun

My friend had a badass Tri-Z 250 but wouldn't sell it. Impossible not to drift on any road with a crown. You could only hammer on it in the sand and it was so fun to ride. Never once got it on two wheels in a turn. Just takes common sense to ride one safely.

Yes they did.  Never rode the T-3, but my dad had a T-4 for a while.  I'd rather just have a KX250, but it was a cool quad.  Kinda felt like an unpussified Blaster.

Dad had a worked LT500R zilla around the same time.  Holy shit that thing was nuts....in a straight line.  Extended swingarm, and extra wide in the front and back kinda killed the cornering.

I just remember riding around this little oval we made in tha pasture with a single jump on it.
Hitting that jump with the big balloon tires and no suspension. Then doing the rest of the lap on two of the three wheels.
Seems like it was called a Big Red?

I got a Honda 200 new in '84 and I still ride it today.
I've been up and down mountains; across streams; thru muskegs; over fallen logs while hunting, fishing, playing and working, and I've never had an 'incident' where I've been hurt more than you would be on a quad or MX dirt bike (or playing football). If you misuse any piece of equipment, or use it beyond your capabilities, you'll break it and yourself. Simple as that.
They are not as stable as a quad but if you ride them accordingly they stay 'right-side-up' just fine.

Yes, the moose and elk seasons are open up here now.  It'll be hanging by noon tomorrow!

I did to. Our family had four of them and we rode the shit out of them. I was a master of three wheeling monsters. They do not flip easily unless you are so retarded as to not understand how to use your body as a counter balance. They were amazing fun.

My cousin's use to have 3 Honda's that we would take through the back woods and ride. I never beat on them or drove them like they did, they were crazy They also had a Banshee that I loved to ride but that thing was a BEAST. Seen this one a Yamaha 225DX for sale the other day, in the same condition for 800 bucks and was tempted.

We had a old 85 Honda Big Red growing up. That thing would go places no quad could. If you could get the front end through the rest would climb it's way in.

My pristine 1984 Honda 200S.  It has gone farther, and outlasted every all of my friend's 4wheelers.  I grew  up riding these, and all I can say is if you can't ride a trike then you shouldn't be on a quad either.

We had two Kawasaki's ATC's growing up, a 110 and a 200 with a hand clutch.  The 200 was a little more stable, but you did not mess around on either.  The second you stopped respecting them, the sooner you found your ass in the grass.  We used them hunting, and that 110 was one of the most dependable engines we ever owned.  It always cranked on the first or second pull, and ran forever.
