I’m thinking of getting a 5.56 ak, I’m not sure which to get I’m leaning to the beryl right now any advice? Or anything else I should look for?
|
|
I love 5.56. I love 7.62x39. I have several AKs in x39. I have an AR in x39. But for some reason cannot bring myself to get an AK in 5.56.
The AR in x39 is just a fun bastard. But an AK in 5.56 would feel like I’m trying too hard. |
|
I'd buy that PSA one or whichever uses Pmags.
Factory 5.56 AK mags suck |
|
I had one a couple of decades ago. A Norinco. The magazines for it were worth more than the gun itself if I remember correctly.

Beryl is about as good as it gets right now, since Zastava is on its way out for the time being.
Arsenal is great, but $$$. Some WPB are better than others, but people seem happy with them. Avoid the rock and lock PSAs, some are great, others need a few warranty trips back - I don't think it's worth the roll of the dice. The PSA 5.56 AKs using AR mags seem to be fine. 5.56 AK rock and lock magazines are much more available now than ever. The only issue people have are in converted Galil and SAR-3 magazines. |
|
I <3 my Zastava M90.
Uses cheap Galil mags, built like a tank, accurate, adjustable gas system. It just fucking rocks. |
|
Polish Beryl is what you seek.
Arsenal is nice, but flat out overpriced |

If I was in the market for one I would get a PSA.
Personally I prefer 7.62x39 in my aks and 5.56 in my ARs. |

Beryl is the correct choice.
SAM5 is shit. SA M-5 is g2g if you find one for a reasonable cost. |

when you want to pay the money for 5.56 and you want to pay the money for an AK, but you want to poor ergos and out dated design of an AK. is there any way you could make this a worse decision? maybe buy a CA neutered version?

OP: Zastava M90s are nice. |

Thank you everyone I have 2 AKs in 7.62x39 2 in 5.45x39 and one in .308 I just wanted something else that I guess is cheaper to shoot since I have a few ARs

View Quote Define "poor ergos". What more do you need than a trigger and a pistol grip? You seem to be stuck in 1947. I know, I know, there's guys out there who love nothing more than a first-generation-style Kalash with nothing but iron sights and a fixed wooden laminate stock, but AK evolved just like the AR. Unfortunately the AR-15/M-16/M-4 is being phased out for being "outdated." Look at the AK-12. |

I may take flak for this, but I’m waiting for the KUSA 101 to come out. Very excited about that release. However, I’m in the process of building a 5.56 side folder 12.5” AK. Gonna be sweet.

They work fantastic and the owner is a good dude. |

Thank you again everyone I guess I didn’t realize there are so many variations of the 5.56 AK mag I figured they would be like the other calibers and be standard

The Zastava poly mag does fit and feed the SLR-106. It’s a little on the tighter side but not outrageous. |

Although a lot of the newer offerings all work with Arsenal waffle type mags. But the biggest reason I bought an M90 is Galil mags are still cheap and they're tough. |

When I got my 5.56 AK it went to the top of my AK pile. Love my M90.
AS mentioned above in this thread, the best mag option is to use 5.54mm '74 mags with 5.56mm followers, they are just a better-quality option. |

PSA AK 556
Takes AR mags, 1/2x28 threaded barrel, mine runs like a scalded dog. |
|
My 5.45 AKs are my favorite I don’t own anything that shoots smoother and more softly too bad the ammo is getting so hard to find hopefully one day someone will start making it here

Friend has had one forever. Loves it. Don’t recall the flavor.

I had an Arsenal SLR 106FR for a while. It was pretty accurate and completely reliable. It also had damn near no recoil at all. I was shocked the first time I fired it.
In the end, I traded it off. It didn't do anything an AR couldn't, optics mounting was possible with the rail but kinda clunky. Add in the price for mags and it just wasn't a keeper. |

I do like my 7.62 VZ58 quite a bit. Was a fun build. Trigger kinda sucks but nothing like the huge nasty sear the commercial guns use with both sear springs in place. My favorite rifle cartridge is 5.45x39 though. Like it so much I make my own brass from 556 brass and swage down .224 bullets for it. My 556 saiga has been great but ((10)) mags are spendy. Today, if I were looking for a 556 AK I'd buy a PSA that uses AR mags. Solves the mag issue using cheap STANAG mags found everywhere. |
|
I would get a beryl. Have a 106 and a m-85. Oh and a shitty wasr. Had a 106cr that wouldn't run at all.
