Interesting fact. That photo is not pf the first flag raising at Iwo. The first flag was taken down to prevent some bigwig in the navy from getting it and that picture was snapped as the replacement was being hoisted up. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

ETA: Supposedly the first flag was taken down and replaced with the second one that was twice as tall so it could be seen from further away. |

No, this is the first flag actually being raised. http://collectinghistory.net/iwojima/iwo-2.jpg Here it is being replaced. The second flag wasn't twice as tall it was a larger flag. http://collectinghistory.net/iwojima/iwo.jpg The posed picture was the gung ho picture of the platoon. http://www.iwojima.com/raising/Slide25.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Any of you guys have a translucent pmag?
I saw one in a thread where a member posted pics of an orange, blue and translucent seeking advice on value. I've seen blue and orange but never translucent... new to me and I want one. Are they so rare that's it $100 or more for one? I've never even seen one for sale in the EE. |

It's all good. I just read flags of my father last year. I spent a bunch of time going through supplemental material as I read. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Great. I was reading what research was available. Everything I read said the taller flag was hoisted 2nd. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/04/us/iwo-jima-marines-bradley.html |

Not an Iwo Jima expert. I thought the Rosenthal image shows the 2nd flag and the one with the Marine with the M-1 Carbine in the foreground was the first flag. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

We need a "Man Down" alert button for the forums. @Justabulletaway revived me from my stupor last night, still not sure how I cam out of it. Would be great (terrible) to have a button you could hit to have an audible alert to a member.
I'd bet we would have gotten to 25 pages if I hadn't dropped (passed) out of the game on FNM for four pages. |
