They actually shipped it with the entirety of doom, and disabled most of the levels, although they're still accessible. The just respited everything and removed all of the original sprites, making the doom levels tough to play where enemies spawn in without proper sprites. Chex Quest - Doom Leftover Levels |

Since I was banned from playing DOOM (still played it, just on the down-low from mom), ChexQuest was the next best thing. The freeware came in the box and you could order the full version. I played the whole thing and the expansion, or second one, cant remember which it was. |

Quoted: I'm '82 and my brothers are '88 and '89. There's a definite gap in life experiences even then. I think the years up to '85, maybe including '86, are pretty accurate for Xennials from my experience. Good example, I listened to vinyl growing up like Gen X. They never really did. They were pretty much just cassette and CD. View Quote Yeah my older brother and I were born in the early 80s and my younger brother in 91. We spent most of our childhood without internet. Little brother came online after the internet was a thing. Much bigger difference between us. Before the web was even a thing you had AOL which was a completely different experience. You had to trade for porn in chat rooms and hope no one picked up the phone while it was downloading. First time I was caught looking at porn it was a picture half downloaded that timed out when I furiously tried to x out of it when my mom walked into our computer room. I’m glad I chose Metal Gear Solid over FF7 back in the day. Biggs didn’t have MGS and the clerk suggested final fantasy instead and I thought about it since it was getting rave reviews but I held off on it. MGS is the direct reason I have an HK addiction today. My best friend got into RPGs and was addicted to World of Warcraft for a number of years. He ended up doing alright with the ladies but often admits it wasted his life away during college. The part I miss the most is the music. I have a big soft spot for late 90s top 40. Song’s like Eve 6’s “Inside Out” or Len’s “Steal My Sunshine” or New Radicals “You only get what you give” take me right back to middle school. Something about that 12-13 year old time frame stuck with me. I got into much different music personally but 90s pop remind me of a simpler time. Pop culture revolved around MTV spring break and fun, not trans weirdos, BLM, COVID arguments. |

Mostly porn, but yeah, downloading music on OG napster was cool. Took me 14 hours to download Metallicas version of turn the page. In college in the early 2000s, before iTunes went gay, everyone on the college wifi could download each other's iTunes library. Sometimes someone would go to class and interrupt the download, but I got a ton of free music without much risk. Zune actually marketed it as one of their perks after Apple put an end to it. |
