According to a report that came out sometime after the raid, no. I believe they replaced the arms and a few other bits and placed it back in service.

Was the robot a total loss?

They should stencil the mission on it.

I wondered what the mission stencil would be. I doubt the PC/SJW at the head of the department would let them do much.

I like that this article highlights how not so simple firefights can be.  You think you have a man dead in your sights, yet everyone firing and no one is hit.  Lots of keyboard warriors and gun-control liberals would think otherwise.

I'm not sure what DPD's NVG capabilities are, but most PDs are not properly equipped or trained for no-light operations. As you read in the article, even full time teams which are properly equipped often get sent to do BS duties like drive around the hood and generate meaningless stats, rather than train for the day that call comes.

Even if DPD's officers were equipped with the finest gear, and could operate in total blackout, there's no saying that the bad guy won't toss out a few glow sticks, battery-powered flashlights, or even have his own NVG's.  They knew he was trained and well equipped.  They had zero idea of how well equipped he might be.

The Robot did not kill him. The human with his finger on the button did. Just like the gun does not kill, the person that pulls the trigger does. The Robot was just a delivery system.

Pretty much this.  I have zero qualms about how they used explosives in this instance to bring an end to a killing spree.  Every event is different.  I feel different about the way Dorner was basically burned to death.  I don't mind that Dorner is dead - it's just that being trapped in a purpose-set house fire is a helluva way to kill a man.

Now, should my local PD start blowing people up for unpaid parking tickets, or should the Revenuers start blowing people up over tax liens, then I'll have something to say about their tactics.

Dorner shot himself in the head.  Then he burned up.

If they can do that, why not just get a few frag grenades?

Because they’d never use them and frags in stickbuilt construction is very unadvised.

Wow, that was great journalism.

Well written and informative.

I wish this treatment would be done to more incidents like this. It gives you an insight into what Leos deal with.

Remember the old "Dallas SWAT" show on A&E?

Sr Cpl Borchardt was kinda on an episode of that show.  At the time he was "Officer Jeremy Borchardt".  You hear his audio as he screams in agony after being shot in through the femoral artery while trying to apprehend a kidnapping suspect in a hotel at the intersection of Mockingbird Ln and I-35E.  He survived the trip to Parkland when the paramedic placed his knee into his spurting wound and placed all his weight onto the wound.  Officer Borchardt was to be promoted in a ceremony later the day he was shot.

Before that, he was one of the officers that grabbed a fallen DPD officer, Mark Timothy Nix, and tried to rush him to a hospital after he was shot by a suspect.  The ambulance couldnt reach the scene so he and another officer grabbed Mark and tossed him in a cruiser to take him to Parkland.  Unfortunately Mark didnt make it.

Dude has seen some shit at DPD.

I agree 100%.
I have a much more clear picture of what happened there now than I do just about any other event like this in recent history.
Not just well written, but the infographics and multimedia inserts were incredibly well done as well.

It is one of the most well written pieces I've seen the medi put out in years.

I just sent her an email letting her know that.

Good article, but I'm a little bias towards some of the content about the shooter.
