Sen. Byrd served until 2010. He was a direct connection to the good old days. All kinds of current office holders would have served with and worked with men like him. Kamala Harris's strike on Biden shows that attacks on fellow party members aren't just tolerated but they can be exploited. Given the lack of experience, culture, history, etc., of some of the new members and plenty of voters, this kind of thing could get out of hand quickly. It's fun to watch from outside but if they chase all of the adults out of congress on the Dem side it could get really ugly. Reps and Senators need no national eminence to get elected, that's how people like Pelosi stay in.
