I would be really curious to know how many missiles the Russians have that are actually capable of making it off the ground.

Their recent naval and air issues leads me to think they have an equal chance of nuking themselves versus nuking us.
And, yet, we trust and use their missiles to ferry our astronauts to the international space station.

They have plenty of capable nukes, but they are not planning on using them

Hypersonic missiles is the new nuclear deterrent.

They can get a better response time for counterattack delivery.
They strike first. We can counter attack but it'll take 30 minutes, so that gives the opponent time to maneuver.
We strike first. They can counter attack providing only 5 minutes for us to maneuver.

Short circuits the OODA loop. Traditional systems allow more time to decide and act than do hypersonic systems.

Also,  staggered launches. They can send hypersonic missiles first to attack our command structures at certain intervals, and simultaneously launch traditional ballistic missiles.  So while they C2 structures are being attacked, the ballistic missiles are making their way to attack other targets. A one two punch where the first punch knocks out our detection systems.

Much like we do with artillery where they can lob five shells at different angles and they all land at the same time at the same target.

Of course, this is not counting on the nuclear triad and having boomers stationed off the enemies coast at the moment of launch. That's an unknown variable.

Plot twist, Russia doesn’t have functioning hypersonic nuclear weapons.

They are decades behind the first world super powers. Their infrastructure is crumbling and their weapons technology is comparable to our early 80s tech at best.

All they have is effective misinformation campaigns. That is all this is.

They are a second world country desperately clinging on to their booster seat at the adult table.

They know which targets to hit. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist you don’t want to be near Kings Bay, Bremerton, Sedalia, Norfolk, San Diego, any B-52 or B-1 base or Colorado Springs and Omaha. Not to mention any of the missile fields in Wyoming, Montana or North Dakota.

Nuclear misslesc are solid fuel rockets that are far more reliable and stable.
Ones going to space are liquid fueled.

Why?

"Our side" (as that mouthbreather sees it) has been blah blah blahing about how entire states are responsible for the decline of the US, they are all part of the other bad tribe, and that other tribe isn't human and all deserve helicopter rides, and you are shocked that after a decade of that rhetoric that mouhtbreathing follower types are parroting the natural consequence of dehumanizing divisive tribalism? The fucking Russians love that shit, eat it up, and some Russian troll is asking for a raise because he got some mouthebreather "American" to cheer for the motherland to "solve Americas problems" by nuking the "bad places that the subhuman bad tribe lives in." But the Russian troll didn't do it. We gotta self-police fucktarded mantras before it blooms into mental pestilence.
