I've driven down Kolb Ave in east Tuscon many a time.
Those F111Ds and EF111s used to fly over the skies of eastern NM (especially Melrose Bombing Range) when I lived close to Cannon AFB (27th TFW) back in the day. Kinda weird seeing them sitting in a dirt lot instead of the flight line, or pulling negative Gs with the TFR set on a soft ride over the Lincoln National Forest. When the 27th TFW was still flying "D"s, the F111A on static display inside the front gate used to be a source of parts for the "D"s that needed 'em. |

all that money...jsut sitting out there. I'd love to buy some parts to decorate the basement or even make some furniture. |

They need to sell those off. I saw a house made from an old passenger jet, was pretty neat.
I would love to have an F111 parked out front just for looks. |

The EF111 with "Operation Eldorado Canyon" painted on the nose would be magnificent! RIP Capt. Paul Lorrence You were such a refined, classy fellow, and it was a pleasure to have met you. |

Very nice, thank you. Some surprising aircraft in there... m |

Having returned a 50 year old air frame to service from amarg, I'll say those things need a lot of work Some of the newer ones would be easier though.

I've never flown a plane in for drop off there but I have flown some out after they've sat for several years.

IIRC, a couple of CH-53s were returned to flying status around 2006 or '07 due to USMC attrition in the GWOT. It took months-over a year I think. |

What a waste. Too bad that stuff wasn't de-mil'ed and sold off [to civilians].
Could you imagine a few thousand former military jets being sold to civvies? |

The Albatross and the OV-1 Mohawk are very cool! Thanks for posting.

I assume this is not a place where a guy could walk into buy a ticket and make a day out of seeing all the awesome stuff there.

The ca,aros old chase cars? English translation please. Were the Camaros old chase cars? No, those are just old cars owned by the guys that own the civilian boneyards in Tuscon. In the "old days" when aircraft were sold off for scrap those guys would buy entire lots of complete aircraft and then either scrap them or hang on to them. Here are some of the names of the civilian boneyards: Allied United Aeronautical ARM/DMI Jacks Govt. Surplus K-Tech Aviation Minden Air Corporation National Specialized Aircraft Western International There are others. |

It's hard to get in there even if you know someone, and it's hard to get away from the people in charge even when you are there on official military business. You can arrange for a bus tour of the place, check out this web site: http://www.pimaair.org/view.php?pg=16 |

I had a ton of cool photos from DM from when I worked with the 355th SFS but some shirtbird stole my laptop when I was TDY in San Antonio.

It's half an hour or so south of there but again, well worth your time. My father was commander of several different silos in the nine south and when he died we donated many items and pictures now on display there. http://www.titanmissilemuseum.org/ |

Wow, those S2s have been out there for 35 years now.
I guess they still occasionally pull a few out to modernize for fire bombers. ETA: nice S3s too |

Interesting to see so many 'on blocks'.
'Course, Tucson is a bad neighborhood... |

ETA: nice S3s too IIRC, noone has pulled one out for a firebomber in years - that business is pretty much done. The Brazilians have picked over what's left - mostly C-1's from what I understand, not S-2's - to modernize for their carrier. |

The place yourself and SPECTRE (sp?) Linked looks cool as well. My parents will be retired to Queen Creek come the first of the year and I know my dad would have a blast seeing a bone yard. I watched a lot of the TY birds in this one takeoff on their last flights.

A Huey Cobra has a slender profile. I was just notcing that when I looked at the shells of those death machines at a recent bone yard.

Looks like somebody pulled the engine and tranny from that Camaro, just from looking at the light springs at the front.
I had a car similar to that as a teenager, but it was all one color. |
