Saluting or flying the flag is much like saluting an officer. It isn't the man you are saluting, it's the rank. So, it's not the current government it's the country you are saluting by flying your flag.

I'll disagree with you that we survived those other administrations as well. They've been deliberately dismantling this country for decades and every year they gain more power and influence even under presidents like Trump. Now all our institutions are now controlled by them. Dude’s numbers go straight vertical when the NYT has him at a 3% chance of winning, all the bellwethers were wrong but one when previously that number had never gone below 60% no matter how contentious the election. And the president is a guy who’s made a career of being “Politician for Sale, Cheap” for 40 years, who will shill for literally anything as long as you connect your shell company’s account to his. You think he’s calling the shots and he’s not still doing the same routine? Whenever whatever speed they shoot him up on wears off he starts shaking the hands of people who aren’t there and randomly wandering off in the middle of awards ceremonies like someone’s grandpa who got loose from the nursing home. When he’s awake he rubberstamps actions by the DoJ that are both immoral and straight up illegal and should lead to mass disbarments, deliberately sabotages domestic energy, throws open the borders. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We’re a pretty long way from just “the guy we don’t like won and is pushing some tax policies we don’t like.” I’m not flying my flag upside down as I too believe that’s disrespectful except in an emergency. But I’m not in normalcy bias delusion land either. I exist in the land of small business, where it’s been a virtual war zone for three years straight with the government and Big Finance operating openly as the enemy. I don’t get the luxury of deluding myself like salaried workers and retirees. Over half the people I worked with five years ago are out of business and it wasn’t COVID that did them in. |
