Never tried it but I want to. Pole inbound.
I like real ceasar salad, I like canned salty fish, we use anchovie paste for dressing. How could it be bad? |
I like it. Anchovies and mushrooms is my jam. It really is going to depend on the quality of the anchovies though.
I have done that before and I don't have a problem with it, but admittedly I usually don't make my pizzas with 'em.
In college a friend of ours worked at a pizza joint.
We had him make us a pizza with one anchovy way on one edge. A piece cut from the opposite side tasted of fish. |
I love them, but they are easy to overdo.
Mushrooms, anchovy and crumbled bacon with plenty of chopped garlic for me please. |
I like them but only by themselves on pizza. Cheese + anchovy pizza only. They're just little bits of fishy salt.
I won't eat a pizza with anchovies on it.
I worked at Papa John's back in high school and it would cause a fight when someone ordered anchovies on their pizza. No one wanted to handle them, even with gloves. I swear the smell soaked through those gloves about the time you got halfway done with topping a pizza with them. That wasn't what turned me off of them. I just never liked them. |

My daughter loves them on pizza. Those things taste horrible and stink to high heaven. Fish don't belong on pizza.
The biggest issue with anchovies on pizza is that most pizza places use low-quality anchovies, and they put too much of them on the pizza. The best way to do them is chop them up fine and mix them into the sauce.
But if used sparingly on a pizza with several other toppings, they can still be great. |
Oh yeah.
I'd see if ordering "light" is an option, and only on one half the first time. |
I like them with tomatoes or pineapple. It's not my favorite pizza topping, but they are still good.
Quoted: Quoted: Anchovies and pineapple on a large Chicago style pie https://i.redd.it/3162rx4t78zb1.jpg Hell yes! Yeah, I'd fire that up. |
Any time I have got them it’s been overwhelming. If I did it. I’d use 1/3rd what they did. Probably fine.
But any time I’ve had it. Shitty. |
Quoted: I like anchovies, but not on pizza. View Quote That's my feeling. I like them cold on a Caesar salad, and pureed in A1 (hey, I only use it on 6 dollar sirloins, no NY Strip or ribeye sacrilege). Tried them on a pizza once, and hot they just didn't do it for me. Got salty, fishy grease everywhere on top and it just was not my jam. |
Yes I order them at specialty pizza places. Best Anchovie pizza I had was in Milan, Italy
Better in Caesar salads but OK on pizza.
The old lady doesn't even like to look or smell them so I gotta do that stuff when she's out for whatever reason. |
You guys are broken.
But I'll still stand with you guys in Texas. |
What toppings belong on a pizza
-extra cheese -Sausage -meatball -pepperoni everything else falls under the category of way to fuck up a pizza. |
I'll take anchovies every time over any kind of fruit on a pizza!!!
Have been a fan since I was 20, was in college outside NYC. NY style was a great introduction to anchovies on pizza. Have ordered it many times since (mid-late 1970s).
Was at a meeting around 2009 with a customer. Their VP of technology ordered pizzas for lunch so we all could eat and work through our meeting. One of the pizzas he ordered had anchovies and jalapenos - his favorite. It immediately became one of my favorites. |
Saute with olive oil until they become a paste, spread on pizza and add pepperoni.
Try a triple, triple some time. Triple garlic and triple anchovies on one pie.
Absolutely.
They're so salt packed and cured, all you taste is salt. Which is fine by me, I'm a salt addict. |
Anchovies and jalapeños. Pizza perfection and you don’t have to worry about someone stealing a slice.
Grandmother introduced me to this as a child. Love it to this day.
When I was in the military....nobody ever asked me to share a slice. |
Anchovies have a place in nearly every savory dish. If you don't believe that they are the bacon of the sea, you don't belong in a kitchen.
