Games Workshop guys are crooks.

I have to agree... 50 dollars for a fucking terminator squad

I think they're good businessmen.  They might charge 50 bucks for a few plastic sprues, but they've been getting away with it for almost 20 years.

thats a good point, its kind of scarey to pay 50 dollars for a new dreadnaught (Mine is at least 10 years old, it was before the were walking cubes)

Honestly, I think you're better off getting a ForgeWorld dreadnought.  They look 10x better, you can get the exact weapon options you want (though the new plastic dreadnought is at least a bit better about that than the old metal ones) and you're only paying like a 20 dollar premium on it.  Or at least, that's the way it seems for me.  I love the painting and modeling aspect of 40k.

I was looking around their website a few weeks ago. Neat stuff, but damn their prices are up there. $1100 for a Reaver Titan. $280 for a Baneblade tank. $80 for a Landraider. I used to build military models, and can't remember ever paying much more than $50 for a good model. I can't figure out how they can charge so much for a plastic model. I'm assuming those are plastic, right?

I wish I had thought up the W40K universe. I'd be a billionaire by now.

Forge World makes a variety of models that GW is either unwilling or unable to produce normally.  Their stuff is usually of higher detail (like the previously shown dreadnought) and/or larger (like superheavy tanks and titans).  However, while they make these various kits that GW doesn't really want to add to its regular production lines, they are a part of GW.

Q1. Is Forge World part of Games Workshop.

A1. Yes, but we operate as a small (but, perfectly formed) seperate division from the company that makes and sells the main Games Workshop range of products. We are not connected with the US company that used the same name many years back for production of resin WH40K vehicles under licence.

I've got a few pictures of my army.  I've added a Leman Russ Exterminator to this force since the picture was taken.  I've also dusted/washed off those Predators, and changed the one with Heavy Bolter sponsons over to Lascannon sponsons in response to 5th ed's changes to defensive weapons on vehicles.  I'm still painting a lot of it.

The majority of their models are resin, not plastic.  IIRC, the resin is cast in rubber molds which are cheaper than the multi-thousand dollar metal molds used for plastic.  The resin is also stronger and capable of finer detail than the plastic, so it's ideal for large and well detailed models.  There are some problems with modelling with it, like the dust is harmful, and the resin can sometimes warp or there'll be bubbles in the resin or whatever.

I thought that wasn't due to be released until mid-August.  Even the BL website shows it coming next month.  Gotta get it.

As for me, I don't play the games.  I read the books.  I've read all of the Gaunt's Ghosts so far and the Horus Heresy, along with a few others.  I'm currently reading Brothers of the Snake by Dan Abnett.  His books are among the best.

I get a new codex soon, too.  It's either IG or Wolves that comes after Marines.  Most of the rumors I've heard say Wolves in December, then IG in Spring.  After that it's Necrons and Dark Eldar; which comes out first between the two of those depends on which is done first.  There'll be a whole new range of DE models to go with the codex (the license to sell the current models in retail stores belongs to someone who left the company).  There hasn't been much in the way of rumors for IG, Wolves, Necrons, or DE.  The only one has been some CAD renderings of a Valkyrie, which is either for Apocalypse or the new IG codex.

Apothecaries may be fielded in one of two ways: as an upgrade character to a command squad, or through the Purity Above All chapter trait.  The Purity Above All chapter trait allows you to upgrade the Veteran Sergeants of Tactical and Veteran squads to an Apothecary.  The rules for their equipment, the Narthecium and Reductor, are in the wargear section of the Marine codex; the basics of it is, once per shooting phase they can let 1 model within 6" ignore a wound.

As seen in the rumor thing above, they're likely to change in the new Codex to granting the Feel No Pain universal special rule to the squad they join.  At the very least, you will not be able to field them any more using Purity Above All; the chapter traits system is being removed in the new Codex.

Back in the day (Mid-late 80s), I played a few times and even purchased a few space marines. The company that published the stuff always seemed bent on putting out new stuff that made the current stuff obsolete. I did not have enough interest (or money) to keep up, so I lost interest.

My true (and long lost) love was 15mm miniature wargames covering anything from Renaissance through the American Civil War. Napoleonic and ACW were what I played the most.

I miss those days.
