There was a time in 1997 to 1998 when Ford was giving away the flareside bed and A/C on the stick shift 4cyl Ranger XLT for free. At the time I was the lease manager of a large Ford store on the NH seacoast.
Sitting around in the showroom one day, I did the math and figured out that I could lease out those little Rangers for $128.95 per month with no money down. If I residualized a CD player and a bed liner I could actually drop the payment to $124.95 per month, with the dealer still making money. We sold those little trucks like popcorn at the movie theater - usually 200-250 of them per month. Holy crap those were fun times |

I know it's not a Ford, but growing up as a teenager in the 80's, I lusted after the Mitsubishi Starion Turbo.

In the early 80s, the Mercury Capri RS, was the counterpart to the Mustang GT. My brother had an 83 Capri RS with a 5.0, 5 spd, and t-tops.
I haven't seen a Ford Tempo on the street in driving condition since the early 90s. They were such garbage. |

My mom had the Ranger Splash. Good looking truck with zero leg room.

A friend REALLY wanted a Thunderbird Super Coupe, but all he could afford was an Escort GT.
He was never particularly happy about that. |

They also had the Edge, which was a 2WD with the 4WD's front suspension for some idiotic reason. View Quote On a side note, the Edge came with a Torsen diff, and a lot of Mustang guys would yank the diff and axle shafts from wrecked ones to install in their axles. |

I had a ‘95 Thunderbird LX V8. It was a giant POS, I hated everything about that car. I ditched it with prejudice and bought a Camaro SS when they came out in ‘96.

On a side note, the Edge came with a Torsen diff, and a lot of Mustang guys would yank the diff and axle shafts from wrecked ones to install in their axles. View Quote Only the '02 FX4 and '03+ FX4 Level II's had the Torson with a 31 spline 8.8 (and a cool interior) They are pretty scarce in a JY, I have come across two and have the chrome shifter out of one of those in my '85. Forged Alcoa wheels and rear axle were already gone (I have an Explorer 8.8 in mine so the rear axle wouldn't have been much of an upgrade anyway) Edge had the same ol' clutch type limited slip as an option like any other Ranger. One side of the earlier Ranger's is popular for converting both sides of foxebody axles to 5 lug, otherwise I think later Mustangs (SN95+) have wider axles than Rangers did. They had a "Trailhead" edition that was like an Edge also, same front suspension as a 4wd but was 2wd. |

Obviously along with going to 5-lug wheels with SN95 front spindles. One thing that bothered me was that the MN12 Tbirds like mine had 5x4.25 lug pattern, while Mustangs were 5x4.5. They could be converted with SN95 front hubs and 99+ Cobra rear hubs... I did swap the rear drums on my 5.0LX to Supercoupe discs, and it was tempting to go to mustang pattern at the time, but it was my DD |

I have a beater SUV that is a 1997 Ford Explorer 5.0 with the Mustang GT engine in it.
