I have two choices where I live. Safeway/Smiths/Albertsons or Walmart. The price difference is sometimes staggering. I shop Walmart early to avoid, well you know. Buy all my meat in bulk, vacuum seal and freeze. I can what I can from my garden and have Chickens that give me 2 dozen eggs every three days. I also bake my own bread. Grated cheddar cheese at Sam's is $14.00 for 5 lbs. Vacuum seal 5 1lb bags and freeze. Lastly Fuck Biden. |

The in house supermarket bakery breads are half the size they used to be, tough to make an acceptible sammich on. Any smaller and they’ll be rye baguettes. |

Yeah my rabbit hunting went from "rabbit stew is a treat" to "there are 5 processed rabbits in the freezer. Going out again tomorrow." We've tracked a solid 30% increase in our final total. What use to be about $150 a week is now in the $200's. Deodorant is crazy. Shampoo, the cheap shit that used to be a buck a bottle is now 3 bucks. Meat is baffling. I can catch stuff on sale, sometimes pork tenderloins are bogo. Chicken hasn't been in my house since covid, where prices shot from $2/lb to 4 or more. I miss lamb  Flour is 5 bucks a lb We used to shop in Fort Collins (closest CO town to us, about an hour drive) but in Jan they raised all taxes in Foco by 3%, bringing the total taxes on sales to damn near 10% when all is said and done. We now shop in Wyoming. Same drive, but about 15-20% less expensive overall based on our math. It's getting worse. |
| I drink a cup or 2 of hot chocolate every morning at 4 when I get up. A 24 ounce can used to be like $2.97. Now it's $5.46, and I keep noticing the can is 1/2 full when I open it. Yes, I know weight and all, but then don't make the can really huge so it looks like you're getting something. Oh, and the old can at $2.97 was 32 ounces. I couldn't figure out why my usual place was completely out of it awhile back, then I figure it out. Switching to the new can and price. It was gone for 2 weeks, then when it came back it was...different. New Coke classic trick. |

I have a high-end wheat mill and I can't beat that price grinding my own. Get some sourdough starter and make your own sourdough for $0.25! Thats a fucking QUARTER for a loaf of homemade sourdough. The same shit costs $7 at Whole Foods. The electrical cost is negligible, especially in the winter where the oven warms the home. |

Basically "If you wait for several weeks and drive to half a dozen stores, then buy in bulk you can buy groceries for the same price that you used to be able to buy". Except you just spent hours more in time, more in gas, and need to a place store all the bulk food items. So even if the total price is the same factoring in everything else it is way more expensive and any convince is lost. Prices are through the roof. That's the bottom line. Tricks to help cut costs is a totally different topic. |
