The newer M4 models are only 15#s.  I’d like to crank off some HEDP and air burst HE rounds.

@whiskersthecat

I've goosed a few mud huts and rock walls. Nothing cool, like a T72. Reports are that it does pretty well against communist armor.

I did...

With Combat Engineers...

We had SMAW's...

It was very similar, weighted, and loaded.

What makes the weapon worth its weight are the various warheads.

The terrain and speed usually precluded us from bringing them with the direct teams, but they definitely had an important role with supporting teams when possible where they and the ammo was usually transported by a couple of ATVs (as in quads).

Isn't there some kind of limitation on how many rounds you can fire in a period? @killberb6

Are they not considered RPG’s?

Are the projectiles rocket propelled?

That's why they aren't RPGs.

The Swedes limit firing to 6 per day in training and 20 per day in combat.

RPG doesn't mean rocket propelled grenade and not all RPG projectiles have rocket motors. The RPG-2 is a smooth bore recoilless gun and none of it's projectiles have a rocket motor. Most RPG-7 ammo has a rocket motor, but not all. Some Gustav ammo is rocket assisted.

Yes...
'Not in combat though.. Just training.

'Would have probably been the M2 version (1960's) as it was in the 1980s in the Canadian Armed Forces...

Hell... 'Could have just as easily been the M1 from the 1940's as it was in the 1980s in the Canadian Armed Forces.

I think doctrine is to limit the user to firing something like 3 rounds a day (or maybe even per week) to avoid TBI.

Correct, mostly. Different rounds have different limits. I can't recall the limits now, it's been too long.

I came close to getting to fire one. I was in AFG as a civ supporting some SEALs and they wanted some work done that wasn't very close to the top of the priority list. I told them I would put in extra hours each day (we were paid flat daily hours but we could always put in extra unpaid hours if we wanted). I told them I would do it if I could shoot the Carl G. I was already going to the range with them to shoot small arms so it wasn't a huge stretch to do the Carl G. Unfortunately before the work got done they decided they no longer needed it done, and I didn't get to shoot a Carl G. One of the other guys in our project did get to shoot one. He was bummed that he was missing turkey season back home so the SF team he was supporting bought a turkey at the local bazaar and let him shoot it with a Carl G flechette round because they didn't have a proper turkey hunting shotgun in the armory and the flechette round was the next best thing.
