My dad had Rambler station wagons until he switched over to a VW Campmobile in about 1972.  I still remember drooling over the Mark Donahue AMX in the showroom.

They were way ahead of their time.  Straight up the first "crossover".

Funny, they were considered an oddity at the time.

My 1984 J10 has "razor" grill.

Fun fact; the body stampings for hood, fenders etc on full size Jeeps didn't change from 1963 to 1991.

The Mark Donahue car was a Javelin, not an AMX.  It was a 1970 only car and came with some equipment that was to be used on their Trans Am race cars.  They had to "sell" 1500 of them I believe for the specific parts to be legal in the race, though I'm not sure how strictly that rule was followed.  The special race block 360-4V engine was one of the parts, along with the rear spoiler.  However, since the car could have a 390 option I doubt they sold 1500 of those special 360 blocks in the run.  I have seen one of these with a auto on the column... an odd combination under the circumstances.

I had a '73 AMC Hornet with the 360 CU V8. It belonged to the owner of the dealership before I bought it, and had dual exhausts with glasspacks, and would run like a scalded dog. Drove it for 3 years and loved it.

Friend of mine from my high school computer science program had a green Gremlin.  One day turning onto the street In front of school the right front hub and associated suspension let go.  As he had gunned it through the intersection to get to school on time he had sufficient momentum to make it over the curb and sidewalk and smack right into the masonry sign in front of the school, thoroughly breaking it.

In 1977 I bought a 1974 Gremlin, 304 V-8, 3 spd. It was a true sleeper in 1977, used to routinely take on the early mustang II V-8 and the small V-8 Monzas, pretty close but not quite on the 305's though.
Had a 1972 Jeep Commando with a 304, weird but somewhat rare. Got around great in the snow and off road.
1988 Cherokee 4.0, 5 spd "puke-joe" transmission although I never abused mine and never really had any issues. Again excellent winter vehicle.

I have a soft spot for the old AMC's having owned several and worked on a lot of them when first cutting my teeth in the auto repair biz.
Factory 360 Hornet SC is a rare vehicle and starting to be worth some serious money.
The 304 hornets were much more common and still a lot of fun.
AMC never put a 360 in the Gremlin but they did put the 304 in them.
From there though it is an easy swap to put any of their V-8's in all the way up to the 401.
My wife thinks she wants a restored Gremlin!!! LOL Hey where is the rest of your car?
