Delicious!

Its been a year or so since I have eaten at one. I would more often, there just isn't one really close by.

Went to one for the first time ever last Summer and the meal tasted like somebody already ate it.
Location closed it's doors a few months later.

The local one closed a few years back. No big loss, as it wasn't very good. The LJS in London Ky is pretty good though. I eat there whenever I'm going that way.

Me too.

I liked LJS, but most of them have closed around here in NoVa.

The closest ones left are shown in Warrenton and Dale City.

I may have to make a special trip soon before they close too.

ETA - Fish & chicken platter, add clams, shrimp, and a large soda.

Might take the dad there for nostalgia. Grew up in Barstow and sadly it was the best fish shop we had. Now on Vegas I got plenty of top tier spots but he's getting old and maybe it'll make him happy remembering the days he was younger raising my ass

I went to ours about a year ago cause my dad loves the place. Honestly, it didn't smell safe to eat. He's a diehard LJS fan and he wouldn't eat it. He did say the past few times he's had it, it wasn't good.

Love me some LJS fish with the malt vinegar

A couple times a year, just because. Not great, not bad.
Grew up in the UK with proper fish n chips. Malt vinegar is a must.

While I miss the fish, I really miss the chips cooked in the same oil so they have that slight breaded cod flavor to them.
Greasy goodness. Needed that vinegar to cut through it. Oh, and the slight hint of newspaper print ink for the final authenticity…

I ate there once when I lived in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego in the 1970s.  I saw no reason to go back.

It was a lot more fun buying McDonald's burgers when they were on sale and handing them out to meat-starved Hare Krishna kids.

Dude, you ate at an LJS in PAC Beach???? Good god man, there must have been 20 better choices for fish!

BYW, my BIL is from PAC Beach. I love the strand.

Went alot in the 90s. We have one local. Its way overpriced and mostly batter. Last time I was there we were the only customer and when the drive thru window opened it smelled like weed.

Chicken planks mf!
I worked there in high school 4 days a week 11 to 7 as part of school. Gotta be fresh, or it is shit. The fries taste funny because of the oil. A designated fry vat was not an option. Friday was a bitch. Line out the door all day ding to dong. Cutting the fish was an art. 2.25 oz per was the goal. I was the best fish cutter in the house. Guess Who had to cut most of the damn fish.

The local LJS was torn down and replaced with a brand spanking new DQ Grill and Chill.  Big win for us - but only relatively speaking.

I always liked their food. It was a treat back in the 80s.

I think I’ve seen one around here in the WS area, but last ate at one back in the 90s in Concord. Couple pubs in Winston have good fish and chips so no need to get fast food variety.

The Soylent Corporation replaced the fish patty with some new "Plankton" thingy from the ocean, so it's still "seafood".

It's delicious protein - from the ocean!

Old bag of nails is my GOTO fish fry place. They put one in Toledo and I stop in whenever I am there. Best fish fry I've ever had. And it's the same every time I get it.  It's so good that my dad, who doesn't even likes fish, will order it when I take him there.

One of the last freestanding ones I know of is in Round Rock, TX.

Back in the 1980's, LJS was great! I even know of hard core foodies who lament the passing of that level of LJS. IDK what changed, but nothing there tastes the same any more. It's trash.
