I actually ate there for lunch last week. The location here has been there since the late 70's and they have good food.

i think its a front for the DNC there is no way i'd eat there. They are still operating in western PA they are disgusting

Quoted: The only one I know still in business, is in New Kensington PA, and it is a combo place with A&W. As much as I like rootbeer i have never stopped there. Seems like all the other stores in that plaza have or will be going out of buiness in the last couple years (Kmart, altmeyers, now staples). But there is a new Aldis just opened there. View Quote i've see that one still gross.. I'll cook my own fish or go to the church fish frys before easter. |

There is still one or two in town here, I haven't been there in a while mostly because my wife doesn't like it.

I fucking love LJS. I ring that bell a few times a year. Greasy breaded “chicken” and “fish” slathered in tartar sauce and hush puppies with honey mustard? Hell yeah. And the little breaded crispies? Hell to the f yeah. I eat pretty clean but I will chow down on some LJS and little Caesar’s.

Quoted: I have one down the street. I never see anyone there when I drive by. I don't know how they keep the doors open. Or the food fresh. I do like their chicken and fish planks. They are tasty. I just don't trust the food. Slow business = shortcuts and questionable food safety. View Quote if you've ever been to one, surely you've seen how they cook the fish. a frozen filet is pulled from the freezer, then dipped in batter with a set of tongs. the filet is then placed into the fryer, and the timer set. the fish you get is as fresh as a frozen filet can be, it wasn't cooked yesterday and is just sitting around. the fish is cooked to order. |
Haven't been in one since the 90s. I didn't realize they still exist.
Liked it as a kid but the last one we had in that area turned into something else and ultimately into a Starbucks.
I have no idea when I last ate at a LJS, but man do I love me some Captain D's.
There are certain places that my stomach just can't handle and LJS is one of them. I don't know if it's the type of oil they use or something else, but it messed me up last couple times i ate there.

Quoted: Love their chicken tenders. I’ll go around once a year, maybe. View Quote It's probably sacrilegious somehow, but I feel the same way. I don't know how anyone's heart can stand eating there more than once a year. I will also admit, when I ate there once last year, it was not great (but the year before, the chicken was pretty good :D). |

Quoted: Chicken planks mf! I worked there in high school 4 days a week 11 to 7 as part of school. Gotta be fresh, or it is shit. The fries taste funny because of the oil. A designated fry vat was not an option. Friday was a bitch. Line out the door all day ding to dong. Cutting the fish was an art. 2.25 oz per was the goal. I was the best fish cutter in the house. Guess Who had to cut most of the damn fish. View Quote wait.. the fish isn't precut? |

Last time I was at a Long John Silver's was when I lived in Milwaukee in 1979.
I didn't know they were still around. |
There is a Long John Silvers near the Academy Sports not far from me. Apparently a bunch of people go there a lot. That particular store stays pretty busy.
There is another one by the airport here that sees a steady stream of customers. I think the last time I ate there was as a teenager living in Indianapolis. |
Once or twice a year my wife isn't feeling well and she wants me to go get Long John silver's for her.
I'll have a few hush puppies. I'm not a member of the tender tummy brigade, but the rest of their food really doesn't do anything for me. My wife actually wanted that the other day. When I walked in, they had a sign that said the ice cream machine was broken. I sit out loud what is this mcdonald's? And the hot Latina mommy behind the counter laughed and said they keep their stuff running way more than McDonald's does |
Just at at ours tonight. It’s been open about 40 years now in the same place. Sometimes it’s awesome , sometimes it sucks. Depends on who’s doing the cooking.
I can't even remember the last time I saw one. Looks like there's only three left in Oregon.
Has Ivar's been mentioned, yet.
My SIL is from Seattle area. She always talked about this place. The last Long John Smoothies that I remember seeing was in Albuquerque, NM in the 90s. The Fish Market and Red Lobster in the SF Bay Area. The Fish Market used to be good. Now just a sit down Red Lobster. |
a couple of times a year for nostalgia.
it's not as good as it used to be, but i still get my fried fish/malt vinegar fix. |
Every time we go there, I sware never again. But since the nearest Captain D’s is close to an hour drive, we will probably patronize LJS two, or three times this year.
Why we can’t have a good fish and chips restaurant within a few days drive is one of life’s mysteries. |
Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: There's one near me in Plano: Google Maps I had to Google it. I honestly had no idea it was there. I haven't been to one in at least 15 years. There is one in McKinney on University. Lewisville and Carrollton sre GTG. |

Guess Who had to cut most of the damn fish. wait.. the fish isn't precut? In 1978, no. It came in slabs that you weigh (if you are a rookie) and cut into 2.25 ounce pieces. The fish comes frozen in ~10"x10"x2" boxes that you set in a specific pattern to thaw overnight in a refrigerator. The batter has to be perfectly mixed. If the batter isn't perfect, the fish is either dry as hell, or greasy beyond edibility. Fry for 4.5 minutes at 350°. |

I don't give any food joints my business. Not since 2003 anyway.
I've never been in a LJS restaurant. 2023 is not going to be any different.
I said no because it’s obviously very unhealthy and I just don’t eat fast food anymore.
That being said, if my brother and I are together and we find one that isn’t a ghetto shithole, we’ll wreck a bunch of that deliciousness. For old times sake. It’s a bit of a tradition. |
The one local to me finally closed down a year or two ago. It’s no some gyro sandwich place.
Not familiar with Long John’s but apparently around here the geriatric demographic is keeping Captain Do’s thriving.
If go to the one in Winnemucca but it's closed when I go by it 10 times a week

There is a freestanding LJS near my work. I usually do not eat there but I have twice this year. Honestly, the tenders are 100% better than McDonald's nuggets and the fish and fries ain't bad either. The only real issue is that everything is quite a bit oily-er that most other fast food. I don't know how they even do it. They also have the coleslaw that they share with KFC that I like.

5 pages of LJS discussion. GDers are everywhere. And yet, not one GDer has piped up and said "I work there and..." Not even "I used to work there while in high school and..."
Shit. If someone on here said they left a can of spam on the top of the third peak to the left in Patagonia another GDer would say "Found it and thanks for lunch." And not one LJS employee has posted. Or willing to admit to it. Or I missed the post. |
Quoted: Went there maybe 7 years ago. Was awful. View Quote It's been longer for me, but yeah, the last time was the last time for a reason. I'm glad that I know how to cook. Most of what I make for myself is better than the rubbish you get at chain restaurants. Now our local mom and pop Italian places I can't match. |
