It grows fast, is brutally pokey, but good luck ever getting rid of it.

Fuck both of these. My property is invested with both of them.

Between them and Autumn Olive, it's a full-time job just keeping travelable timber.

Blackberry should grow in your area. Also, not sure how you'd obtain them, but nettles are the worst in summer. They grow in VA, so I imagine they will grow in your AO.

Stuff like poison ivy won't work well, as it doesn't provide the immediate dissuasive effect.

Nasty stuff, will cut a person to shreds once it matures, spreads a lot.

This, that shit is brutal. The thorns are recurved so getting into it isn't that bad getting out is where it grabs you. I had to cut a bunch of it back, walls of it growing in the hedge row around my grandparents fields. It wove into the wild honeysuckle and just was a wall of suck.

Holly is good, with the added bonus of being an evergreen.

Blackthorn would be an interesting option, and has the added benefit of being able to harvest sloes later, and eventually the wood for really tough walking sticks / clubs.

Can you raise ground bees?  Lord knows I’ve found those often enough playing paintball.  They will certainly act as area denial.

You would be well served if these grew in OK.  They are sharp, able to penetrate clothing and even have a little irritant to round out your day.

Shit, worst lesson I learned as a little kid was Cholla. It was a long trek home to finally get my parents to 'fix' that mess. I have a very healthy respect to this day having been out of AZ for many years.

This, it can be cut into a hedge. You have to have a run in with it to realize how much damage it can do.

This shit will take over in a year. Impassable

I suggest you really research this before planting as it is prolific

You cannot break through this shit even with thorn britches on. If I had to negotiate concertina wire or multiflora rose, I'd pick the wire.

Rose, cactus, potted plum trees.  I am partial to the wild plum, some varieties have thorns that can get a few inches long.  They are known to puncture tires and impale things that aren't paying attention

Having grown up around OKC, cactus grows wild there but nothing like in AZ or TX.  It’s that little tiny button looking cactus with thorns like fine hairs.  It’s hell to pick out if you grab one.  But not really an area denial type of thing.  I think you’d have to work pretty hard to grow something like cholla or prickly pear there.

Sandplum will grow quite well in OKC, given the right soil and adequate water.

Just a note on blackberry and razzberry plants. They like "disturbed" ground like over old construction sites or plumbing access trenches.  So dig up the ground first, then plant the stuff. I think maybe the roots can't get through hard packed soil which might be present near a commercial building.

I’ve planted a bunch of rotunda Hollie’s in section 8 housing.  They always specified to be in front of windows, and we would put them around the fencing to discourage people from cutting the fence.  They would still hang on the gates and break them often though

I'm 200 miles north of OKC and pyracantha overwinters just fine, so long as you pick the right variety.

There are varieties that are wintersafe to 5a and 5b.

On trifoliate orange I would put in double or triple rows of plants spaced 8-10” apart.

It used to be pretty popular here under windows and the house I grew up in had it.  The tips of the thorns like to break off under your skin and get infected.  Luckily for us my dad was quick with the mercurochrome from everything.

Used to have an indian hawthorne in front of my dining room window.  You can definitely make a nice hedge out of them and they are pretty if they get a lot of direct sun (and that’s in a place three hours south of OKC).  They weren’t worse than any other thick growing bush otherwise though.

so you want a plant to scare them away? most of these plants are barriers due to interacting with them, not just looking at them.
an intruder might be apt to remember where they got loaded up with a bunch of sticky stabby seed pods and be more apt to avoid that area next time
