I was walking through my back yard a few minutes ago and saw these tracks. They measure about 5-1/2" wide and 5-1/2" long.

I've seen plenty of deer tracks around here, but nothing as big as this. Should I lock up my dog?

The pictures are hard to make out, so I traced the track in red...

Not that I know of. It's SW Wisconsin. Deer everywhere but the closest cows I know of are three miles away.

You have either a small cow or an elk there.

ETA: Which is good. Both small cows and elk are quite tasty.

Two Polish guys were hunting one day and came across some tracks.  The first guy said, "Those are deer tracks" the second guy said "No, them are bear tracks" before the first guy could respond they were both hit and killed by a train.

Yeah, I'm old, that's from The Official Polish (Italian) Joke Book ('77).  Most of the Poles Ive worked with were actually pretty freaking smart BTW.

I don't know of anyone around here who has cows. But if it's a migratory cow and it's on my property, it's mine, right?

Isn't that how it works?

Or should I print out some signs that say "Found: Lost Cow" with Elmer or Elsie's picture on them, and staple them up to the telephones poles?

What part of WI?  It could be Elk, but it looks like baby elephant.

Or pygmy rhino, they are kinda skittish.

Could be a pony or donkey or something like that.

The impressions are not very distinct so could be something like a goat or elk or pig.

Don't rule out stuff like LLama as well. There are a bunch in SE Wisconsin so someone could have lost one where you are at.
