Seriously?  Fuck that.

If I'm wounded I want someone to be able to haul my ass out, not drag me, give up 20ft later and ask another dude to do it.

Seems like at some point this would be common sense.

I think the real issue here is that the current height and weight standards discriminate against the very body types that are better at those tasks. Men are similarly affected, but probably not as much, since so many smaller men can still meet fixed standards and the guys built like “strong man” competitors either fight body fat restrictions all their career, or get out early. With women, though, when everyone is tripping over themselves to prove they can make it, this issue is much more in the forefront. This petite little marathon runners and cross fitters might be great at body weight exercises, but they don’t have much body weight.

In short, Army needs meaty women capable of causing death by snu-snu.

Got it.

Amazons; we've known about this for some three thousand years.

To say that body mass matters is sexism, pure and simple.

To say that body mass matters within the subset that comprises females....  well, that's just common sense.

My findings contradict yours.  Compact-framed women were more prone to injury from vigorous activity.

The litter obstacle course at Fort Sam back in 1988 convinced me that women weren't cut out for some jobs in the military.

That and the fact they fell out on runs at much higher rates.

And the fact they struggled carrying two water cans or fuel cans up a hill.

And the fact they suck at the fireman's carry.

And the fact they much higher pregnancy rates than men when deployments crop up.

Wow did you just make some memories come flooding back. I was at Fort Sam in '91 and I loved/hated that litter obstacle course. We had plenty of females in my baby 91b platoon but I must have lucked out. I don't remember ever having to run the course with a female as part of my team. That would have truly sucked. Our females were all pretty small and the course sucked enough running it with 3 other young bucks in great shape after basic.

I had to share my tracked aid station with a female medic during a couple training rotations at NTC and I can tell you who did all the donkey work and who had to ask any available male soldier to lend a hand when a litter patient needed unloading from an M113 or into a Hummer ambulance.  Spoiler alert. It wasn't her.

I used to work with an old guy who spent a good portion of his military career worrying with anti-communist groups in central/South America. He was a smallish Mexican guy, and he thought the little mountain people from South America were the best soldiers ever. He said they weren’t as big and strong as Americans (couldn’t carry as much shit, which he said US military does too much of anyway), but they were tough as nails and you could work their asses all day and night and they complained less. The downside is that they couldn’t do shit independently and required constant NCO supervision.

Me, I have no clue, but it made for interesting stories.

The Air Force got rid of weight standards years ago and replaced them with performance and abdominal circumference standards.  It's a more logical system than weight IMHO.

A linebacker outperforms others if they are big mother fuckers.
If they are 5'7 and 125 pounds they are not good linebackers a study finds

What we need to do is remove all the big men and keep the smaller men so the women have a chance.

That will fix it
