You need a better cover story.    You did not fall in the shower, you jumped from the second story balcony at the mall, stopped the active shooter BEFORE he got active.   Saved dozens of small children and several elderly.

Good luck, heal fast.  Get the Dilaudid.

I didn’t break it but I had my right hip replaced back in July at 43. I was only in the hospital over night. First few days sucked pretty bad but after that I was up at em. I was back at work at 5 weeks.

There are quite a few long term studies showing that drinking shittons of milk actually is harmful in terms of calcium intake, but the marketing is what it is.

I always shower with my phone nearby and this is why. I have a very specific fear of falling and hurting myself badly in the shower.

Either you have bone density issues, or you might need to lose some weight?

I don't see how a healthy human can break a hip from a fall like that.

Maybe take some ballet classes when you can walk again.

I guess I should have read the whole thread first.

Maybe you can use the down time to re-evaluate your life choices.

I wish you the best. All that extra weight is going to make your recovery more difficult.

If you keep eating like "normal" you will likely put on even more pounds.

Hope you heel up well.

One of my best friends broke his hip two years ago. Shattered that fucker. He fell off the utility body on his truck, pretty much seven feet to pavement and landed right on his hip. Phone was in the cab of his truck, door shut, and he was by himself. Had to drag himself up and open the door and call an ambulance.

Anyways, he had surgery and a rough couple month recovery but he’s pretty much fine now. Just wanted to let you know while it might be a rough road for a couple months you’ll get past it.

Godspeed

Very much this. I was 40+#’s overweight for most of my life, until the last 1.5 years. Never felt better now. Have tried to help as many people as possible. Encouraged a 310 lb friend at work to journey down the road of healthy, and he’s 53 lbs down in 4 months shooting for a 80# loss, and he’ll get it. Never thought he could ever do it, neither did I. The group of friends I CrossFit with were all overweight as well - but now run 30+ mile UltraMarathons.
The shit is definitely hard, but doable.
Get healthy OP, if you’re obese this possibly wouldn’t have happened.
I’m 40 and fell from the pisser into the shower drunk in Arizona on vacation a few months ago. Wasn’t aware until I woke up and heard the story (partying with 30 year olds got the best of me).

I think of this dude all the time when shit gets hard trying to better myself.

Good luck man! Broke the neck of my hip off at 27 along with many, many other bones (long story). His is the only thing that still hurts at this point nearly 20 years later. I have one giant ass screw left that needs to be removed and then I think I'll be fine after that.

Purple mattress office chair cushion, the thickest one.... yes it's expensive and worth every single penny so get one ASAP!!!

Also, don't just hand over trust to hospital staff, pay the fuck attention to everything that's happening, or have your SO do it for you as well. Them idiots will kill you if given the chance. They aren't all idiots but 95% which is no different than any other job expect your life is on the line if they screw up and not your electric bill being wrong.

Everyone is different. My Dad fell 22 foot out of a tree, broke his hip, back and pelvis and was jogging by week 12. He was in his mid 70's. He was a seriously tough old man. He did soften up after that and called his sons when he wanted to do dumb stuff though. I guess the laying in 30-35f temps on Halloween for 4 hours because he couldn't get up and only being found because the neighbors came home right as it got dark had something to do with it,

Pain level is likely high enough that it’s keeping him sharp.  I was in the hospital once about 20 yrs ago and remember quite clearly a nurse coming in to give me my first real pain meds.  She shot morphine into my IV and I asked her how long it should take to kick in and she said “you should feel it immediately” with a befuddled look on her face— I didn’t notice anything

About 9 years ago I rescued an old guy from a dry ditch he'd fallen into while rolling out his garbage bin.

He was a Para trouper that had dropped in behind Normandy and caught shrapnel soon thereafter so missed the fight across France.

Anyhoo, I got the old guy up on his feet and he limped back to his front door and up the steps and inside to call his daughter.

He'd broken his hip, and never made it back out of the hospital.

I went to his funeral.

I had deterioration in the socket area. They cut the end of the femur off and fitted a tapered shaft and ball, along with a receptacle attached to the pelvis. Looks like a truck tie rod end, all together about 6" long. The operation took just under 2 hours. Recovery has been a breeze.
