You’re the one day dreaming if you think this conversation is over for the OP. Imagine for a moment that this experience for the OP will extend beyond the boundaries of this thread. Because in some form or another this guy is going to be in OPs life for as long as his kid shall live.

Accepting that this situation does not just disappear for the OP with this thread. Does it seem the logical and rightful choice for the OP to write the kids grandfather off, which will surely become a burden for his gf, his kids, himself, all of their relationships and those of anyone else involved?.

Or, more appropriately (seemingly to me at least), he could conduct himself in a decent manner towards the grandfather, which would not only serve his family better, but also contains leverage in and of it self by not vindicating the grandfathers wrongful predisposition. A critical component for the OP to the logical continued conversation towards enlightenment of the grandfather , because make no mistake, this conversation is just getting started for the OP.

Not to mention displaying himself as a solid father figure and role model for his kids, and would promote critical thinking, open dialect with those of differing opinions, and most importantly, maintains the core family principals and values our society so desperately needs.

Or just burn the kids family down because daddy and grandpa don’t agree at a glance on guns.

Went over to my girlfriends parents house tonight. My oldest son (7. from a previous marriage) and I dropped off my youngest (2) at their house since he's staying the night. My girlfriend was sent to the ER last night and had to have her gallbladder removed. She also has a good size stone that needs to be removed that they couldn't get today. She goes back in for surgery tomorrow to get the stone removed. My parents are taking my oldest back to meet his mom in the Seattle area tomorrow so I can head to the hospital.

So, sitting on the couch at my gf's parents I hear her dad mumble "jesus christ". Wasn't sure what it was about but whatever. Told everyone that I needed to get going and stood up and picked up my two year old to give him a hug and kiss goodbye. Girlfriends dad, a man who never says a word to anyone hardly, says;

Gf Dad: "David, do you have a gun on you?"

Me: "Yes I do."

Gfs Dad: "Don't ever bring a gun in to my house again."

Me: "Ok. Didn't think it was an issue but I will respect your wishes."

Gfs Dad: "I just don't want that in my house."

I wasn't really sure what to say. Caught me off guard, but the way he said it in front of every one, really pissed me off. Especially in front of my seven year old (he knows I carry). Girlfriends mom and sister were there as well. I left shortly after. My son and I get into the car and he says "dad, that was awkward". Yes, yes it was...

He knows I carry. Knows I have guns in the house and has never said anything about it. I don't outer carry and always make sure my shirt is covering. I was carrying a P365 so nothing huge and barely notice.

Just left me with an uneasy feeling.

I know, CSB.

WHO IS HIDING??

It is an optional event to go to the guys house.  It is not a public space.  Your point is pointless.  Not to mention IT IS HIS HOUSE, NOT A PUBLIC SPACE.

I would absolutely listen to a homeowner.  No I will not go to your house as my gun is an extension of me.  I don't go places without it.  Not shopping places, not park places, etc.

But I live in Texas and may be sheltered I just don't know folks like this.  He seems to have done a really good job with the GF as she likes it when he carries.

Not gonna read the whole thread, OP, but here’s how I see it.

1. Respect. The old man doesn’t have any for you. Otherwise he’d have pulled you aside rather than chopping your wiener off in front of everybody, especially your own son. And if he has no respect for you then he certainly has to think that you’re not good enough for his daughter.

2. Red flag laws. They’re nothing to laugh at if you value your liberties and property. If he wants you gone, given the way he’s acted about this, I wouldn’t put it past him to make up some schit and drop a dime on ya. Might not be tomorrow, but rest assured you’re in the fatal funnel. Have you considered relocating out of that commie state? Are you able to transfer your job? Maybe that’s something that should be on your radar. Something to think about.

If it were me, I would try my best to play it cool until I could get out from under the red flag threat, i.e. relocating. Until then I would consider storing most of my “sensitive property” with someone I trust, or getting a small storage unit if I didn’t already have one.

How does a gun violate someone's house?

I once saw my 1911 pull itself out of my holster, crawl across the floor, stick itself in an electrical outlet, and say "you like that, don't you bitch?"

The gun itself isn't the violation; it's the lack of respect for someone else's property rights that constitutes the violation.

Jeez, we clearly have a number of renters who fail to grasp the rudimentary concept of property rights. Not all renters, just some.

Don't get me wrong, even though the father was within his legal rights to establish that rule, legalities aside, it was still a real dick move of him to belittle another grown man like that in front of his family. It would've been better had there been a behind-the-scenes discussion of that - preferably before the gun enters the home, but in this case, after the fact would've sufficed.

I would amend my previous statement and stick with this one.

This is the best solution.  Although I would explain it to him.

"As you don't seem to care about my or my family's safety and you hold your particularly repulsive and ignorant brand of politics above our collective safety, we won't be returning here.
You could've pulled me aside and voiced your concerns/position, but you chose the passive-aggressive route to make a scene."

"You are more than welcome to visit at my home, providing you keep your vile politics to yourself; but my family and/or my children won't be returning as its clear that you don't value their safety and
you have no means of protecting them should something terrible occur."
