Quoted: You all need to brush up on psychology. All of your advice makes OP the bad guy. He needs to think through a plan to make GF's dad the bad guy. Something along the lines of not saying a word about it to GF. Next time they go over to visit, OP stays outside. GF shocked, asked what is wrong. OP says he was told he wasn't welcome. OP tells GF to have her dad explain. Make them fight it out. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Quoted: Don't marry her and continue to be cordial with her folks. Every time she brings up getting hitched, tell her you wish that you and her family got along better and that you don't think her dad respects you. Either her or her mom will end up nagging her dad until he throws in the towel and tells you that you can carry wherever you want. Or they'll nag him to death, either way you win. Quoted: Quoted: Very well could be. My plan is to marry her. I know she wants to get married. Don't marry her and continue to be cordial with her folks. Every time she brings up getting hitched, tell her you wish that you and her family got along better and that you don't think her dad respects you. Either her or her mom will end up nagging her dad until he throws in the towel and tells you that you can carry wherever you want. Or they'll nag him to death, either way you win. I would take it a little further and specifically state that her father was very disrespectful to you in front of your kid and you’re uncomfortable with the situation because of it. I’d tell her, that it has made you feel unwelcome there and that you’re concerned about getting married until it’s resolved because you don’t want to be at odds with her family. And like they said, let them fight it out. The women WILL win fighting someone like that. The only way you lose is if your woman is a closet communist and sides with him(which would suck, but better to find out now)They’ll go nuclear on him(because they can get away with it) and you won’t have to. You get to take the high road and not look like a douche( which will likely help endear you to MIL) and at a bare minimum you’ll get an apology. |
