Quoted: I see a lot of comments about the P-63 pilot being at fault but could the B-17 have been off course? View Quote Yes, that's still a possibility. Not enough information to know yet. That being said, it is still everyone's responsibility to clear their flight path, even if another aircraft isn't where they're supposed to be. |

Perhaps it's just perspective, but in the one video the P-63 seems about at the same altitude as the fighter banking left in front of it. Just went too wide?
The crew of the biplane on the runway looks to have been too close for comfort. |

Texas Raiders was based very close to me in Conroe. I am thankful I had the privilege to crawl all through her at an open house there a few years ago. I am deeply saddened by the news and mourn for her, her crew, and any possible passengers. Ironically, I put on a Texas Raiders t-shirt this morning before anything happened.

Quoted: Am I supposed to know he's an auto mechanic? If he were speaking to me face to face and he answered my question with "Thanks, auto mechanic." I would think he's calling me an auto mechanic as an insult. Had he said "I am an auto mechanic, that's what I do for a living" I would have still answered him in the same way. Stats are from Real clear history. RIP aircrew View Quote Wartime training was performed in weather and conditions completely unsuitable for pleasure or airshow flying, average pilot experience was far lower during wartime than for airshow pilots today, and most importantly, the liability environment is sufficiently different that it may as well be on another planet. Though it will be very sad---I love and have loved going to airshows, both here in the Houston area, and in Salinas growing up---Nazis are not going to overrun Europe if we stop having them. Unlike pilot training at the time. That six people died at this show is a tragedy. I am grateful it wasn't far worse, but from a couple of the videos, it doesn't look like much temporally kept this from involving a lot more people. |
