One of permanent residents of the shelter I volunteered at has passed. His name was Otis and he was too much of a grouchy old asshole to be adopted. Seizure alert is more about them sensing the chemical changes that precede a seizure, and then having an a way of signaling that those changes are happening. That can give a person as much as 30 milk it’s to take preventive medication or at least get some place safe before they conk out. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

He passed while wife & FIL (fil’s brother) were on their way to see him. |

Getting all that shit to fit in my a holster took a lot of heat gun work and even more cursing. But it fits and I didn't fuck up the ALS retention, so now I can run around and do stupid shit at night without losing my pistol. So I have that going for me. View Quote |

10-12 years on average, and it really depends on the dog, why it’s retiring, and the family it’s going to. I can ask if she has or thinks she’s going to have anyone she’s looking at placing. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

What type of doggie should we be looking for next? Thinking maybe something that can double as a service dog for the boy with his seizures? Not that he's had one in a long time, but it would be nice. As to what might be appropriate for you, i’m assuming that you aren’t going to want a lot of hair that would necessitate daily care or regular trips to the groomer. Also that something in the 35-70 lb range is the sweet spot. Energetic enough to keep up with you but not bouncing off walls. Good with kids and some degree of chaos/unpredictability, obviously. I’d look at maybe Boykin Spaniels (if rescue, probably a reject hunting dog that was too laid back), collies (smooth over rough, but they’re a lot more rare), catahoulas, and cur dogs, black mouth cur preferable. There are some other, possibly better suited breeds out there, but they’re pretty rare and probably won’t be available as rescues. A Ridgeback would be a decent prospect if you wanted to go big. And i’m friends with a ridgeback breeder that would probably be willing to place a retiree (usually 4ish years old), but it wouldn’t be a rescue. It would just be one of her dogs getting its very own family. And how much does she normally charge for a retiree? |
