Low altitude flying over a populated area where you have ZERO emergency landing options is an idiotic plan to start with.

No place to land.

Not enough altitude to recover from a likely stall.

Not realistic.

What a sad moment.  So dude, why do you white knight asinine flights?

I was in Miami Beach a couple of weeks ago and saw this:

The bigger the banner the slower you need to fly (for the same aircraft).  An increase in airspeed is a four fold (cube) of drag.  If you fly faster the drag will increase substantially, assuming already at high engine power, until you are forced to use gravity by descending but there isn’t much altitude to use as banner towing is very low altitude.  Flying faster drags you into the ground.  Flying slower will allow the aircraft to maintain altitude and increase time over the target audience, win/win.

Banner caught and yanked him right out of the sky .

I wonder why he was so low?  Unable to gain altitude after getting the banner?  Aircraft issues and possibly trying to return to airfield?  Something else?

That's a lot of PFAS going into the sewer.

I don’t think the banner got caught on anything. The pilot dropped the banner because he was unable to maintain altitude. He just dropped it too late.

North Perry is famous for sticking airplanes into neighborhoods.

There comes a point where you have to give up on flying and shift gears into crashing in the most controlled fashion available. That pilot’s brain seemed locked on the idea of flying.

@JPN

Yep

I wonder if they are trying a new type or size of banner.

Wonder if they get their fuel from the same tanks as everybody else at whatever airport they're flying out of, or if they have their own tanker or something.

Fuel source, shop doing the maintenance, pilot training for the aircraft model and for towing banners...

Plenty for the feds to look into.

Based only on my experience watching them pick up and drop banners they have their own fuel truck rather than pay Signature $10/gal.
