MF ate his face, and paid the price. The pic is kind of disturbing..... What did they do? OK sit on the sled......... dude, sit still so I can get good pics.

So he paused to get his picture taken (1st pic) chillin on the snowmobile with the dead bear, while his face is torn off?

They weren’t cheap, but I found some Brenneke Black Magic 3” magnum slugs at Midway (they don’t come around all that often). Picked up the 5-box limit and they will be used in my M4. |

If only he had some bear spray, because it's far more effective than a firearm

A win or a draw when your face is mangled like that is a goddamn heroic victory either way. There aren't many people that will have any fight left in them at all once their face is mangled that way.

Always considered one of them Ruger Alaskans, looks like it came in handy

I’ve seen video of the aftermath of that.
It does a good job illustrating that if you have a victim of a bloody maxillofacial trauma who is stable and breathing, you should let them be. The old fella was sitting up breathing and speaking, but he looked like hell. |

damn,,,,homie only lost one eye and killed that fucking bear...I am impressed with the old man

I have some Black Magic slugs and have only been using them in my pump actions. For some unfounded reason I always think they'll batter the shit out of the M4. Felt recoil doesn't always mean more gas, so I suppose it may be a non-issue. |

His front fell off. for real.
This just goes to prove, you don't need a face to survive. |

Old dude is tough
I had to dig stuff out of (my) airway to breathe,” he wrote. “If I was unconscious, I would have died. Also, (as) long as I lay still just right I was able to keep my airway open. I could not move my face sideways or my airway would close. I know if I lost consciousness, I would probably die. So I stayed alert all the way (to Nome), and I could squeeze the hands of my two partners when they asked me questions.” View Quote |

I believe there was a brief video they shot of him sitting there while they were waiting for help. Maybe the the photos were stills taken from that.

Wow, guy lived. Not sure I would want to, even though I would have an amazing story of survival.
|
|

I have seen similar on face vs boat prop. How to keep the airway open is the biggest challenge. How they live is just a miracle.

I would never have believed he lived through that if I didn’t see the follow up pics. Still hard to believe. And considering how messed he was, you can barely tell. Just amazing.

Quoted: In GD once upon a time, people said the "9mm is good enough at enough things, and handguns suck at killing people anyway, so the G19 with its capacity is fine" That's true. 9mm is fine for people. Over time that morphed into, "The G19 is the best at EVERYTHING, and is even suitable for big bear defense Sure a 1000lb grizzley is twice the size of african lion, but a 9mm that's "a marginal fightstopper" on 200lb fleshy humans, is now awesome on something 5x the size with claws, teeth, fur, and fat. ...did you know that old guide once peppered a bear and it walked off and died later? Choosing not to continue the attack? That means 9mims is great." Yeah fuck off with that nonsense. It all revolves around My Perfect Bear AttackTM Where the bear sees you, waves, and lets you do an El Presidente drill, and the bear changes his mind, runs off and bleeds out. Which is pretty much identical to a home-invasion where the homeowner uses birdshot, the guy runs away and bleeds out. The tacticool crowd are often the fudds of the outdoors. The talking points shouldn't be about capacity, expansion, and gel tests - on big stuff, It's about meplat, energy, and heavy hardcast rounds. View Quote I've never seen this argument made... that G19 is good for everything. I think that's pretty evident by the normal threads popping up of people asking what gun for bear country on a routine basis. |

Quoted: story? View Quote Guy rolled up to bear on his snowmobile. Bear was like "hey guy, fuck you!" Guy was like "no u" Bear was like "ur mom" Guys said "no ur mom" Bear said "say that to my face!" Guy said "come at me bitch I'll give you a free shot!" Bear took free shot Guy shot bear just above right orbital bone. Bear died. Guy posed for pictures and cut bears head off. Guy went to hospital some time later. Doctor was like "you're going to need stitches sir" Guy got stitches and went home to drink beer and polish his new bear skull. |

I remember the story.
Dude is very lucky to have lived. Getting rare for natives den bears. Younger generation is too damn scared of them. |
