Why bother? Hardware stores put the 25' traditional Stanley tapes on sale for $5 regularly.

Because its a far better tape measure...

I stay away from chinese stuff whenever possible. Doubly so with regularly replaced/lost items. I'll stick with $5 on sale USA made tapes.

That's what I always used. My first day working construction my dad told me to pay attention to what every other worker used. It was always Stanley rules and Tape measures, Klein linemen's pliers, White Mule Gloves, Carhart overalls, and jackets, Wrangler Jeans, and Knapp Boots ( the originals ).

I hear you, and don't disagree, since this was a gift years back, I've used the shit out of it and all the junk Stanleys and such have sat in the tool box unused...

been decades since I bought a tape measure, I take it Stanleys are no longer made in the US? Too bad, I wouldn't buy Chinese-made crap as work tools either. The last Stanley tape measure I bought does not say Made with Global Materials, just made in the USA.

Made in US, pfft, should say assembled in US.

I've been happy with the Milwaukee ones I'm currently using. Truth is all tape measures suck, some suck less than others. While not suited to every task I fucking love the Bosch laser measure I picked up a while ago. Little sucker is handy as hell for getting fast accurate measurements in spaces where tape doesn't work very well.

Can't even explain how often I use it. Every day, multiple times a day.

You spray them with shitty spray paint you have left over in the garage and no one will steal them. If you leave them shinny new they disappear.

Last tape I had to replace was when my hired hand let it sucked into the bandsaw blade.  He held it and watched it pay out tape until the end.

Goes to show you how long ago I gave up on fixing them I guess.

Stanley replacement tapes are still available but they're $10+ each. I buy the tapes on sale for $4.99. Why would I ever fix them?

Black magic!

Cool but impractical for shop work. I'll stick with whatever inexpensive made in the USA tapes I get on sale when I need more. No matter what I buy I end up using it to the failure point in a year or two. It's almost always more expensive to repair with a replacement tape than it is to just buy another so I keep a half dozen tapes around at any time.

I haven’t found a replacement tape in years. Stanley powerlok used to have them.

Yeah, I even tried google many years ago and still couldn’t find them. I suppose its odd to replace a tape on a plastic case.

The tapes I use now are $30, $20 on sale but I love them.

I buy a new FaxMax about every 6 months. However,  Home Depot replaced this one for free.

I lose them fast enough so it's not an issue.

Seriously, where the fuck to tape measures go?

I think we go through 6 or more a year. I try to always have 2-3 in the truck and it seems like after a few jobs we are down to one so I have to restock.

Tape measures are like toothbrushes. If you use them daily, you’ll need to replace them regularly, no matter which brand you own.

I got so frustrated with this I bought a case of them from Amazon or ebay for less than 4 a piece.

I don't think I've lost one since then

FatMax only

Going on 25 year of only using them and wont change.

When they get tired we cut them up for various length rulers.  Have even been know to cut brand new ones for rulers.

FatMax, as long as the wind isn't gusting I can run one 28' up a wall.
Only tape measure I'll ever own.
