Appetite, nothing else is even close. That album saved Rock N Roll.

Hard to argue with Appetite but Pearl Jam's Ten is pretty damn good too.

Hard to debate that one. One of the best ever debut albums. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

GnR released a 4 song ep before Appetite. Van Halen of the 2 choices.

I think we have hashed this out to death. Appetite is the best debut rock album. Best rock lead vocalist is Freddy Mercury, and the best rock album of all time is Metallica's Master of Puppets. View Quote |

Before I clicked the thread, I thought Appetite or Led Zeppelin I.

Van Halen.
Saw them on their first tour, nothing like it at the time. |

OP answered his own question. Appetite for Destruction is the correct answer.

Van Halen's first release was groundbreaking for sure. GnR, yeah, they were groundbreaking I suppose, but I was never a huge fan. Zeppelin's first was incredible. U2, MJ, Yes, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Beastie Boys, all incredible acts, but for a debut album it's Boston--no contest.

BOSTON
But interesting fact: By 1986, the album had been certified for over nine million sales domestically, and Boston went diamond in 1990. By November 2003, the album was certified by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of 17 million.[13] Worldwide, the album has sold 20 million copies.[14] The album is the second best-selling debut album of all time in the United States, after Guns N' Roses's Appetite for Destruction.[15] |

Beastie Boys -- License to Ill
Sex Pistols -- Nevermind the Bollocks NWA -- Straight outta Compton The Clash -- The clash Run-DMC -- run dmc The Police -- Outlandos D'Amour U2 -- boy |

Boston's debut is the only album I can think of where every song is still to this day regularly played on classic rock radio.

Axl's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
So yeah, I pick Van Halen. It's also just a damn good album. |

The problem with this thread is that for any worthwhile rock band, the first album or two will of course be the strongest. The real prize should go to whichever band quits on the strongest album....For all the hatred they get here, the Beatles at least had the decency to break up while they were still relevant, and not keeping putting out trash for 20 years with 30 lineups. See the Stones, Metallica or U2 for an example of how not to do it.

came here to throw out for your consideration for best debut album from rock artist...... DIO - Holy Diver
but BOSTON may take the award, after reading the thread |

Van Halen, that album changed the game, Eruption made more future guitar players than all other songs combined. The face of lead guitar changed, now you to be able to tap, kamakzi dives, extreme fretting was the new game to see who could do more than the next, It wasn't just notes any more it was fretboard warfare. While Appetite was a good album, it wasn't the best, and Slash he is good but way overrated.
