But, I recognize they were a studio band. While they could make fantastic recordings (which is what we're talking about) they could not reproduce it live because of how much overlay and processing they did in the studio. Sure made a damn enjoyable album, regardless of how they got there. |

Lots of right answers in this thread (good thread, OP). Plenty of bands who had plenty of good releases had their first as their best. With that, I would like to add Tears For Fears - The Hurting. I can probably add others, but may watch a movie instead.

The River Runs Red by Life of Agony has my vote. Right now, they are my most listened to artist. Saw them 2 weeks ago perform the entire album.
