I was surprised TN doesn’t have constitutional carry yet.

Kentucky remains king, East of the Mississippi and our redneck reputation of being backwards hillbillies keeps the liberals out.

Brutal winters keep out a lot of crime for some reason.

List is nonsense.

Think about it: the biggest threat to gun owners is city people. Time and again, we see gun owners steamrolled by urban politicians and their voters: Washington, Seattle. New York, NYC and suburbs. Colorado, Denver and the front range. And now, Virginia.

You want a state with NO large cities.

Arizona is not such a place: Phoenix,Tucson.
Idaho is increasingly not such a place: Boise.

Wyoming IS the place.

Guns & Ammo's annual ranking of gun-friendly states. From worst (New York) to best (Arizona), here are the best states for gun owners in 2019.

Agreed, but OP said he was tire of midwest winters. Wyoming is not that place.

At this point, I don’t think any state is safe from the gun grabbers. AZ is probably your best bet at this point. Who knows how long it’ll be safe though.

Why Arizona ?

They are far closing to the tipping point than others like Alaska or Wyoming.

Wyoming is all but guaranteed to have the fewest statutes relating to guns. There is almost no gun laws here. No sale to violent felons, can't have a gun if you're a violent felon, enhancer for using gun in a crime, that's about it other than concealed carry statutes. Constitutional carry, unregulated open carry. Some off limits places like any state.

No regulation of NFA items.

We also have less petty statutes regarding to guns.

Wyoming is currently the best and likely to stay that way.

I don't agree with that.

Everybody seems to say that about any state that just doesn't have a AWB/mag ban, allows CCW. But that is/was most of the country.

Even 5 yrs ago FL/VA wasn't nowhere near the top ten.

FL no open carry, and felony to CCW without permit. Bottom half in my opinion.

VA better but nothing notable.

Glad to hear that there is no present problem.
My discussions with friends in Idaho give me the impression that they are concerned about future growth in and around Boise, bringing in city folks from Washington and California. I shoot at a lot of competition venues in Idaho and I hear this a lot.
But, as you say, preemption is good when you have a solid Conservative Legislature. It works well here in Wyoming to keep the Commies in Teton and Albany Counties in check.

As for "Cold as Fuck": A man has to look deep inside himself and decide what he values more- freedom, or warm feet.

Yes, we are getting more and more people moving here so of course folks are uneasy. But this is nothing new. Our state legislature has the wisdom to put measures in place to prevent what’s happened in other states with counties and cities mandating their own anti 2A stances. Also, Wyoming is our neighbor. Only a matter of time before folks eventually start flooding into the state. If Idaho falls, then I would go there.

Mississippi should rank pretty high.

Cost of living is cheap and you'll be able to buy acreage. Stay out of Hines county though.

Louisiana as far as Deep South goes. Lived in Texas....I promise it’s not as pro 2A as people make it out to be.
