Okay guys, long time off these boards. Long story.....divorce etc. However, I have a question. What, in your opinion, is the best vodka for the money. Yes I know grey goose etc. is all great vodka but what gives the most bang for the buck in your opinion?

McCormick by the case.

Most liquor stores give 10% off for case sales.  sooooo, around $70 for six big ones

Friis.

It's a very high-quality vodka (distilled five or six times, IIRC), but because it's not well-known, and from a country that doesn't traditionally make vodka (Denmark), its price is surprisingly cheap (almost as cheap as the really shitty vodka).

I'd say it's as good as Grey Goose/Belvedere, at about 1/3 of the price.

I'll also along with the above, throw Svedka and even Gordon's into the mix of good vodka at a decent price.

What I have found is that the cheaper vodkas will really leave you with a "hang around" the next day. The better vodkas are distilled more times and thus more pure. Several that I have tried and liked are Skyy, Kru 82 and Svedka. Svedka around here runs about $18 for a 1.75 and the other two run about $3 to $4 more.

Keep them coming......

Thanks for all the info!!

Let me clarify it a bit though. I drink my vodka with a bit of soda or seltzer and a lemon twist with a dash of cranberry. Since I mix, spending money on a premium vodka doesn't really make too much sense.

Does this help a bit?

Interesting.  I'm a Rye whiskey fan but never knew about rye vodka.  I do know that neither potato vodka or rye whiskey gives me hangovers.  Just about everything else does.

I've never done it, but I've heard that running cheap vodka through a Brita filter makes it taste a lot better.

You'd probably want a dedicated vodka pitcher.

I really like 360 Vodka for the money.  $22 for 1.75L

It's very smooth in martinis, its inexpensive.  That is my main vodka right now.

I also like Tito's.

For a potato vodka I like Lususkowa.

This.  I don't really drink anymore, but some years back I got into vodka for a bit.  I did a bit of taste-testing of modestly priced vodkas and from what I remember (in order of awesomeness/price):

Friis - like 12 bucks a bottle.  Easily as good vodkas costing up to 30 bucks a bottle

Luksosowa - 11 bucks a bottle.  Very good, but Friis is noticeably better.

Sobieski - 9 bucks a bottle.

Svedka - 12 bucks a bottle.  Probably as good as Absolut, but Absolut isn't very good so...basically Absolut at a more fitting price.

Tito's is very good, probably my favorite vodka but at 18 or so a bottle it's sort of my top shelf for vodka.

Best, smoothest vodka I've had was Christiania - I had a bottle before they changed the design (There used to be a crusader on it, and the shape was rounder), but it's like 35 bucks a bottle now.

Friis and Luksosowa are legitimately good, at a price point that won't break the bank.
