I just finished this as my second AR ever a couple of months ago. I had originally wanted to do a 14.5" pinned and welded with a retro brace, which would Federally be a pistol and for CA be a "long gun, other", which at the time was exempt from the AWB, but then they expanded it at the end of last summer to include such weapons, so I decided I didn't want to pin and weld a CA-legal muzzle device and went with a 16" mid-length. Meant to be both lightweight and a budget build (in case I have to use it, and lose it), which is also why it only has irons. It's now my defensive carbine at home, with the CA grip, muzzle device, etc. on it. With an empty 30-round aluminum magazine, it weighs 6 lbs. 1.5 oz. Light and handy. My other AR, with a free-float rail and the works, weighs only half a pound more with no accessories. I like my ARs light. |

I’m seriously thinking about having this sent off for an ops collar and brake. Even though I may never own an Allen can.

My work in progress. Olympic arms upper. Lowers borrowef from another rifle. Still waiting on Brownells to get a retro lower in to complete the build
The sling is made from army duffle bag straps and paracord. Instructions on this was found in the AR-15 forum. Unfortunately I had to buy 10 straps so I got plenty left over to make more for other rifles. Attached File |

Quoted: Is that the CNC Guns carry handle? How do you like it? @Desert_AIP View Quote Yes. Love it, I have 3. My only gripe, the home made plastic nuts they came with were crap and split and fell off. I got some standard carry handle nuts from Bushmaster as replacements. I always liked the A1 sights better. They're less "fiddly". I used an A2 aperture IIRC. |

Quoted: Tony’s does, I believe, though his aren’t vinyl coated last I checked. The best reproduction ones were from Vaughan at Essential Arms in LA, but sadly he has retired and closed up. However, I think someone bought the plans/tooling for those stocks, so we may see them return. View Quote I ended up buying a fiberlite repro from retrorifles.com a couple years ago, it works fine on my 733 Heat knockoff. They have some aluminum ones for sale for about $130, plastics run about $30. I can't vouch for them now, it's been quite a while since I bought mine from them and I've heard some negative reviews about them in the recent past. But they're there if you want to chance it. |

I haven't seen any tests. but to my ears it's no louder than an A2 or similar. It's not a brake. |

This thread makes me want to watch Heat, and start moving parts around to make my 16" a full flattop and 12.5" a carry handle/A2 setup.
