I pulled one out of our daughter's rabbit after it was shot by some wannabe gangsters while her and her friend was playing with it. it was a miracle the girls were not shot. the bullet hit her goose in the head first, and deflected into the rabbit as the girls were playing with them. we thought the rabbit just got nicked but a few days later the tail of the bot fly was sticking out of the wound so I grabbed a needle nose pliers to pull it out and that is when I discovered bot flies

Wait, what?

He lives near gangsters
wannabe Latin Kings were starting up in our county, till the SO made it extremely difficult for them

Pretty common in MS. I usually wait till after a nice cold snap to hunt squirrels. But its been unusually cool lately, I might go the first weekend of Oct.
We also call them wolves around here.

That's what I have always heard them called too. Growing up we never hunted squirrels until after the first frost so the wolves would be gone.

I tried pulling one out of a wild cat's jaw, but it broke and pulled back into the hole.  The cat's head swelled up for a few days, but it survived.

I've always heard them called "wolves" on squirrels.

Odd that you use that term.  My grandparents used to say that rabbits during the warm months would have "wolves".  I never knew what they meant and just assumed it was some type of worm,.

That's what I have always heard them called too. Growing up we never hunted squirrels until after the first frost so the wolves would be gone.

That was what we did here also, some guys I  knew would just cut out the affected area and still eat the rest of the squirrel.

It wasn't worth killing a squirrel and then not being able to eat it, IMho.

Meh. Stick 'em in your coat pocket or game pouch.
The dead squirrel gets cold, the larvae comes out by itself.
Shake 'em outta your pocket at the end of the day.

Now why would you put them in your pocket.

Where do keep *YOUR* squirrels?
We don't all have aides de camp or gun bearers with us while squirrel hunting.

Uncivilized, I know. But sometimes being alone on the estate is a must...

My Grandpa always had a glass coke bottle in hot water in the milk room of his dairy farm.  If we spotted a bot fly we had to run get the hot glass bottle and put the end over the bot fly hole.  As the bottle cooled it would suck the bot fly larva out.  Kinda cool for a kid to do on the farm.

I have pulled them out of cats, rabbits, horses and cows, but never a squirrel.

We have livestock botflies.  I don't believe we have human botflies in North America.

Arfcom weirds me out.

If there is something I'm thinking about or need to know about, a thread will magically appear in GD.

I have shot a metric shit ton of hares and rabbits and never seen one of these things. Yet just a few days ago the wife shot a cottontail, left it to be disposed of after breakfast. As she was carrying it to toss down the hill (buzzards and worms gotta eat too), I'm thinking "That's weird she got a clean chest shot on it. Why in the hell is a little bit of intestine sticking out above the spine near the tail?" Then, I see the "guts" start to wiggle. Holeeee Shit! That thing was as big around as my thumb and almost as long. And in true Arfcom fashion I killed it with fire.

I took pictures. After an internet search I believe it was a cuterebra larva.

A lot of the posts seem to be from Southern and coastal states. This one was above 9K feet in the Rockies.

The most bothersome thing about the monkey video was the mouth breather at the beginning.
