I thought the trigger safety was supposed to prevent this.  I've been told that that trigger safety is highly effective.

Because Glock is the original "plastic" gun, all the old fudds hated them from the start cuz "real gun are steel" they even made up myths about the strange rifling and lead bullets ,old fudds passed this irrational hate down to fucktards of the next generation. Now years later almost every company makes "plastic" guns, some with the strange rifling and the next gen fucktards buy these up like crazy but still the irrational hate and myths about the Glock remain, it has been hated from the start.

Because of the accident, Boseman did not get recertified, and will not
be able to carry a handgun until he goes through required a gun safety
training program, Shore said.

This seems to be the correct decision.

When we qualify with anyone carrying a Glock there is always the obligatory safety speech.  Yadda, yadda, yadda, don't pull the trigger or the thing will go "boom".  Despite this, we have one Deputy who did Glock himself in the privacy of his own home.  The culprit?  A windbreaker with an elastic cord around the waist.

Now let me say I am a dyed in the wool believer in Brother John Browning and his model 1911.  I've carried one for years.  And I will continue to carry it.  It's the only weapon, though, that I actually use the safety on while on duty.  My Glock?  No safety that doesn't involve pulling the trigger.  My J-frame?  Just don't pull the trigger.  My shotgun?  It's in Condition 3 unless I'm about to fire it.  Sounds like we'll be getting AR's in the not-too-distant future and I'll wait and see about that.  What I mean to say is I don't rely on a mechanical device to prevent me from doing something really dumb or careless.  My most reliable safety device sits between my ears.  And If that one fails me then no mechanical device on Earth can overcome my will to be stupid.  I own every bullet that leaves my firearms, plain and simple.

Charlie just needs to own his bullet.  It happens.  He probably chose a poor choice in clothing for the situation.  This should be a learning experience for him.  At least he didn't discharge his weapon at a crime scene.

Usually gets caught on the trigger finger.

Could have been the jacket or that could have been the cover story for finger still in trigger - either way pay attention to what you are doing when you reholster. I know there are schools that teach reholstring without looking so you can keep an eye on the threat. If the threat is still that much of an issue why would you put the gun back in the holster in the first place.

He doesn't like to carry a gun = he's not comfortable with guns = he rarely does anything besides leave it in his holster.

I bet it's never been cleaned.  And I bet he was re-holstering it when it "went off" likely due to having a finger in the trigger guard.

Of course you are correct but lets not lose an opportunity to ignore the facts and become hysterical.

Guy doesn't like to carry, wounds himself so they won't make him carry. Or he's a 1911 guy

I really think a kydex holster is the way to go when carrying a gun with no manual safety. I got this pocket holster from Amazon for my glock 26 and love it. Allows you to chamber and unload while trigger is still covered. FWIW I do prefer a thumb safety with holster when carrying my gun.

Then it's Charlie's fault, or maybe his office for not training him better, not the Glock's fault.

The gun won't fire if you don't pull the trigger.    I read the other day "my buddy dropped his Glock and it went off, now he carries a 1911" and I just stopped there.   Fucking amateur hour.

Reholstered with his finger on the trigger?

ETA

With a part of his jacket apparently.
Has no confidence with weapons, doesn't "like" them, doesn't train, has a negligent discharge.
Really nothing to see here, except someone whoo S required to carry a gun as part of his job isn't proficient, even marginally, with it.

Good rebuttal for the "only professionals should carry guns" crowd.

I don't know why people abandoned manual safeties. They figured out that manual safeties were an asset over a hundred years ago.

And I don't buy all the bullshit about forgetting to flick off the safety in a high stress situation. You going to forget to pull the trigger, too? It's no more of a fine motor skill than a trigger pull.
Glock really knew little about guns, he figured no safety was better for marginally trained troops and police officers.

He was also making a military pistol at a time when most arnies carried loaded mag, empty chamber.

We had a Navy sentry do the same thing with a Beretta.
Poorly trained, took the gun out of the holster to play with it.
Reholstered it with his finger on the trigger, not aware the safety was disengaged, bang!

After removing any and all bandaging and donning the original clothes? Just seems... improbable.
