The design of the Hi power was initiated by JMB under contract for FN, and completed by the guy who designed the FAL.  In other words, the Hi Power has ALWAYS been an FN pistol.  And, with the exception of an oddball South African made polymer frame, they have never been "synthetic."

Sorry, I'm talking about these later model FN's. You are right it's not all synthetic being made of cast something or other... but it's still junk. Stick with the earlier ones.

The trigger is a plasticky piece of crap. Pull it. It even sounds plasticky and won't 'catch' unless it's fully released. Never had anything like it and that's why I sold it.

That looks absolutely nothing like the BHP's currently in my local gunshop.

What's with the bobbed hammer?

Double action version.  Not one of FN's better efforts and fairly rare.

I used to be all about 1911s.

Then I bought a pair of Hi-Powers several years ago and enjoy them more.

But ever since my M&P9 found its way to my holster last May, none of my other centerfire pistols have gotten any love (except my daily CCW Kahr CW9 because it's so carry-friendly).

At any rate... if something ever happened to the M&P, I'd certainly have no trouble rolling back to the BHPs. But for now, this M&P rules!

You realize that's not a Hi Power, right?

It's a BDM.  Browning "Dual-Mode", came out in 1991.

Not a Hi-Power

Close, it's actually a different animal from the BDM too, a true DA/SA (no mode switching) made for the mil/police markets that never really caught on well.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_BDA
