If any of you guys want to follow along I will be posting videos on my youtube channel. Plan is to start doing some of the autocorss stuff in my area next year. Granted the stuff going on my truck is going to put me in a class that I doubt I will be competitive in but it still looks like a fun time. My first video is the unboxing of the rear suspension kit. The audio quality is poor because of the fan but it was hot yesterday.

QA1 rear suspension for the Ford F100

It started as a running driving truck this morning and this evening it looks like this. I forgot how much of a joy it is working on these old Fords.

I ended up pulling the engine and trans with my tractor since hoist is out on lone. I’ll probably always use the tractor. So much easier. My rear intake gasket is leaking so I’ll have to fix it while it’s out.

I built a bed stand and it fit my bumper and grill under it. Works pretty good for scrap wood I had laying around.

The front suspension kit was delayed in shipping and that’s what I was most looking forward to. Tomorrow I hope to get the rest of the stuff unbolted and start grinding off rivets. Oh how I love air hammers.

I'm picking up my father in-laws 78 f100 in a couple weeks, and plan to start a build similar op.

I subbed to your channel and look forward to see what you build.

Pretty sure I'm going to install a coyote 5.0 in mine just because I also want something fast.

Thanks

I was back and forth on going with a coyote or sticking with an older motor.  The current is a 408w with some heavily ported World heads.  I decided to refresh the 408 and switch over to AFR heads and a different roller cam.  It was in my 68 fastback while I was building the 390.  The cam is not really the best for what I want to do and not a good match for the 5 spd tkx I am replacing the toploader with.

That's pretty rad. I used to compete in a mustang. It's a hoot. I ran in OSP class since I had done an engine swap and changed the suspension to a 3-link + panhard bar from the old 4-link (actually 6-link but I always rip the quad shocks off first thing). OSP is a ridiculously hard class to be competitive in with a street legal car.

I got the font kit in and did an unboxing video if anyone is interested.  Also some video of the current condition of the truck.

Yeah, you'll be in OSP for sure. Tires are going to be the difference between a couple seconds behind and a whole lot of seconds behind the class pace. Keep us updated. Looks like it's going to be a sick truck.

Going with 305 R888R on all 4 corners.  They seem to do pretty well on the heavier trucks.  That's if they ever get any back in stock.

This is a current point of consideration for me. My current 01 cobra has Sumitomos on it and I hate them. They're hard and don't grip well. I've been out of the racing game so long that i don't know what the hot r-compound is anymore.

Pretty sure the 888s are about the same as the NT01. 100 tread wear and 200 or so heat cycles before they start to get hard. Nitto and Toyo are the same company now days I think.

I'm talking about yours. I drive a 20 year old 4runner on big tires that barely breaks into the 100hp club.

Neat project OP. Keep the updating the thread. I did a track day last year with a Malibu wagon and a LS swap. This year did a track day with a guy in a 64 Mustang. It's a fun change of pace from the typical Porsche, BMW, Miata or Corvette.

No, just drive like asshole with tire smoke pouring out the back is the goal of the build.

We will run it through Power Tour, and some good guy events, but honestly it's just a fun street build.

After a ton of cutting and removing rivets I got the frame ready to install the front setup.

You really have to remove a lot of stuff from the frame. All the radius arm mounts and crossmember come out along with the engine crossmember and I beam mounts.  Most of the main crossmember was cut out with a saws all. That was not as much fun and it looks. This system says it saves 200lb and I believe it.

Last pictures are everything that goes into the front suspension. Reminds me of some of the RC cars I’ve built for my son in the past.

Here is a video of the front crossmember going in. Everything lined up to the existing holes in the frame. Overall the quality of this kit so far seems excellent.

This video gets into the fun parts.  Setting up and installing the control arms and shocks.  Starting to make it look like an actual suspension system.

Got the rear kit installed this weekend. Had to move all the fuel pump and filters to the back. I think that’s going to be a short term solution. This kit really stiffens up the rear frame. Should help keep the rear planted.

I’m fabricating an x brace with a built in driveshaft loop now. I had to get all the suspension in first so I knew where to locate it. It still has some flex but nothing like it was.
